How to Configure a working copy of PGP / GPG, How to install a working PGP / GPG installation compatible with THE BAT!

Software Versions

  • Windows 7
  • The BAT! Version 4.2.36.4
  • Desktop PGP 10
  • GnuPG 2.0.16 / GPA 0.91

Description

Could not get THE BAT! to work with PGP 10, uninstalled PGP 10, then tried to Install 8.1 but could not do so. Successfully installed GPG.

Unfortunately I still cannot get THE BAT! to make use of GPG:

Options -> OpenPGP works Ok,
Chose GNU Privacy Guard (GPG)
Configure OpenPGP key Manager

But how to load my Keys ?

Help Says Tools->OpenPGP->OpenPGP Key manager

That option is not available, just the Privacy Menu

Is this due to the version of GPG I have installed?
What ver sion(s) of GPG is compatible?

Douglas

In order to use GPG with TB I'm using WinPT, that's with Vista, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for that, but I don't believe that integrates with the Bat!

It's the method I used in the early 90's with my Acorn RiscPC running RiscOS.

I'm looking at buying another copy of the Bat! for my Dad who is in his 70's, but he could not cope with a non-integrated solution.

Douglas

It integrates with TB just fine. There's no difference whatsoever in using TB with GPG and WinPT compared to using TB with PGP 8 as I used to do before GPG.

I am trying out TB and I set it up for GnuPG. I use GPGShell  as a wrapper (I like it much better than WinPT). You have to have GnuPG installed to use GPGShell, and then just set the links in Options-->Open PGP Preferences-->Files tab. It seems to integrate well, you might give it a try.
