The Bat! v 12.0.3 (64-bit), Windows 10.

The Bat was doing a backup and was stuck part way through for 24 hours. I had to kill it from the Task Manager. Error -2147467259"

What can I do to get it to launch again?

Thanks.
=aw
The programme responds with delays lasting several seconds when new unread emails are clicked on. This is particularly noticeable when a large number of new emails (e.g. 100 after an absence) have arrived.

If the two highlighted options are disabled, the delay disappears.
However, monitoring is not enabled!

<noindex>https://mega.nz/file/CJoBXY6B#QCAxnQDhOSsKlfsFFKl2QjVA4a0zVFecqAnbwjVkF1o</noindex>

Windows 11
The Bat 12.1
POP3
Hi - are others having problems with mailbox view modes? I'm getting occasional crashes when trying to adjust the modes, whether through changing what message list column fields and their order, or in creating or editing view modes. Messages either aren't threaded, or when they are, the threads aren't expanded, even when I'm clicking "expand all threads" as part of a view mode. I also can't seem to retitle new view modes.
Hello,

I just moved to a new PC, and at the same time I upgraded The Bat! Pro from 10.6.x to current 12.03, and installed it on the new PC. Selected the old mailbox on another drive, and it offered to import all my accounts (about 30). The accounts all seemed to import correctly except one, which says 0 messages in all boxes/folders. I've checked the 0 message account and the backup, and data seem identical, so the data are there.

I can see that The Bat! is still causing constant disk activity and has for over an hour now, so I'm not sure if it's just now finished importing or what, so I dare not shut it down in case something should be messed up. So what's going on here, and what do I do?

[pasted image data deleted - mod]

Thanks,
Richard
When I send mail from my main ISP accounts using The Bat
they are sent.
I did some tests today, sending mail from one ISP account to another (I have around 6 accounts).

Then I waited and tried to receive the mail using The Bat. They never showed up!
I decided to go online to Yahoo Mail and check there (because my ISP partners with Yahoo Mail).

Sure enough the mail was received in the accounts I was checking for.
But The Bat didn't receive them! In one case I waited more than an hour.

This is not right obviously, and very important that I fix it.

Any suggestions?

The Bat 12, PDF issue hebrew text in pdf is mirrored in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
as the description says, in the latest version, <noindex>Hebrew</noindex> (didn't check with other languages) in PDFs is shown as mirrored text. English is shown fine.
i've gotten used to the abysmal support of the bat of hebrew, but that's a new one... can anyone confirm and hopefully provide a solution?
(i'm on windows 10 22h2, prior versions didn't have this problem).
I do occasional PC repairs and maintenance for clients. I was recently called to a lady who has been recently widowed and has 'inherited' her husband's computer, running windows 10. She asked me if - as much for convenience as anything else - I could change the names that all his various software (Office, Outlook etc) was registered to. Not the licence type or anything like that - just the 'username'. I find he has taken an old recommendation of mine to heart and has The Bat! ver 11 installed. And sure enough, under 'Help' > 'About' it shows his name as 'Registered to:'. That's the entry I've been asked to change. I've told this lady I'm not sure this is possible, but thought I'd ask here in case some one knows for sure. Any help appreciated.
Sorry for the poor description/terminology.

Something changed recently with my The Bat program.
I don't know what triggered it. At first I thought it looked cool.
But now I would like to return the view to what is was prior to the change.

Here's what I see now:
Folders on left side / From - To - Subject - Received date - Created Date and finally to the Right there is a NEW column that shows the current e-mail, opened up.

Previously, the current e-mail only showed when I clicked on it. Then a pop-up would open showing the e-mail.

What setting do I go into to return it to the way it was?

Thanks!
Hello. I am using Windows 11 and TB v 12.0 64-bit

Since moving to v 12.0, my bulk mail sends present problems. Ritlabs Help member Alex P wrote the below to me to start solution, but I do not understand what to do next.

Perhaps those here could assist me?

Alex writes:

Let's start by creating a new shortcut to launch The Bat! The easiest way to do this is to open the folder C:\Program Files\The Bat!\ and create a shortcut using the context menu of the .EXE file.*1

Once the shortcut has been created, open its properties and add the /SMTP_DELAY_AFTER_SEND:2000 parameter, as shown in the previously attached screenshot. Close The Bat! and start it using the modified shortcut. Then check whether this resolves the issue with mass mailing.*2

-----------------------------
Me
*1 "create a shortcut using the context menu of the .EXE file."

I don't know how to do this.

Idiot GMAIL user giving up on GMAIl and TheBat!

Idiot GMAIL user giving up on GMAIl and TheBat! Tired of digging to use email in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
My 1st mistake was getting a GMAIL account.

My 2nd mistake was thinking TheBat! would work with it.

A few years ago, through some miracle and hours of pouring over forums, I made this combo from hell work.

Then I switched to Thunderbird Mail (TB) as TheBat! stoped connecting to my GMAIL account.

Now that TB has started failing (unable to reconfigure accounts w/out major coding expertise), I thought I would try TheTBat! again.

Bad idea. After finding the solution for "bad handshake" now I am facing another idiotic error. No more digging for what should just f-ing work!

Tomorrow I am backing up my gmail data and that evil provider is out.

I will set up an account on somtehing small FastMail and try TheBat! again with that. If still no go, there goes TheBat!

I really dont ask for much. WTF happened since the times email was f**ing simple?

So tired of this constant idiot-geek nonsense.

Sorry for the rant.
I have my layout as full height account tree on left, message list at top right, and message preview at bottom right.

Since updating to 12.0 64 bit, my mouse wheel scrolls too many lines. It used to follow the windows setting of three line per wheel scroll.

Is there a setting in TheBat! to control how far it scrolls when you move the wheel?

My wheel still behaves correctly in all other apps.

ETA:
Actually the Message preview window slider bar is erratic too, it scrolls too little or too much when I pull on it.
The only way to move accurately is to use the scroll bar up and down buttons.

If there is no setting (that I cannot find) I'll move this to bugs.

Announced: The Bat! v12

Announced: The Bat! v12 more compact, clearer, more convenient in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
For the original announcement with screenshots, see: <noindex>The Bat! v12: more compact, clearer, more convenient</noindex>

The Bat! v12: more compact, clearer, more convenient
30 December 2025

We are pleased to announce the release of The Bat! v12 — the next major update of our email client, in which we focused on the convenience of everyday email work. The most important changes affect the display of message threads and the interface of key components of the program. All new features and improvements make e-mail management more compact, clearer, and more efficient.

Compact mode for Conversation View

In The Bat! v12, Conversation Thread View received a compact view mode designed for users who actively work with long and extensive conversations.

When compact mode is enabled, the vertical space taken by individual messages is reduced: spacing, headers, and auxiliary elements are optimized, while the logic of the thread structure and visual connections between messages are preserved. This allows more messages to fit on the screen without losing clarity or the structure of the conversation.

Compact mode is especially useful when analyzing conversation history, working with discussions containing a large number of replies, as well as in situations where it is important to quickly view the entire thread without constant scrolling.

Compact mode can be quickly enabled or disabled depending on current tasks. A corresponding option is available in the context menu of a message in Conversation View, as well as in the program settings in the „Options\ Preferences\ Viewer/Editor” menu. This lets you easily adjust how conversations are displayed to your personal preferences and workflow with no extra steps.

Improved quick reply in message threads

We improved the quick reply editor in message threads. It allows you to reply to messages directly within the thread, without opening a separate editor window and without interrupting your work with the conversation.

The new version of the email client adds text formatting capabilities to the quick reply editor. When composing a reply, you now have access to basic formatting tools such as text highlighting, various styles, and other formatting elements. This makes quick replies more expressive and convenient while keeping the interface compact.

These improvements are especially noticeable during active correspondence, when it is important to reply quickly to incoming messages while preserving the context of the conversation and a consistent email style.

Simplified account creation

The process of creating new accounts has become more convenient thanks to support for automatic use of DNS autodiscovery data. When configuring a mailbox, the program can automatically retrieve server settings based on the domain of the email address, so manual input of settings is no longer required.

This simplifies the initial setup, reduces the errors, and allows you to start working with your email more quickly, especially when creating new accounts or working with corporate domains.

User interface improvements

Moreover, we introduced several visual refinements aimed at improving the convenience and consistency of the user interface. The changes affect both Conversation View and the address book.
In Conversation View, we improved visual elements that influence the clarity of actions and consistency with other areas of the program.

We have also made neat cosmetic adjustments to the new address book interface. Individual layout and alignment elements were refined to improve readability and make working with contacts more comfortable.

All changes respect the existing interface logic and are intended to make working with The Bat! more convenient, intuitive, and visually cohesive.

Smart Upgrade

If you purchased The Bat! v11 after June 1, 2025, we have great news for you — Smart Upgrade allows you to upgrade to The Bat! v12 free of charge without entering a key.
