Unloading The Bat! from Memory The Bat! stays in memory after closing in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Anyone else having this issue? I close The Bat! at night, and the next morning I try to open it and I get the message that "There is another instance of The Bat! in memory". So I have to go into Task Manager to End Task.

I haven't been able to stop it from happening, but I've made it less annoying. I created a .bat file (I call it "Unload_TheBat_from_Memory.bat", and it contains a single line of code:

taskkill /IM thebat32.exe /f

Like I said, it doesn't solve the problem, but it certainly makes life easier.

Outlook SMTP Sent messages never leave the outbox... in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
I'm running Home v12.2. I've added two outlook accounts: IMAP works perfectly, SMTP does not. All messages I send just sit in the outbox. Initially the software asks me to re-insert my password (despite the setup including my password) and then returns the 'Client not authenticated to send mail' error.
The accounts are set up correctly. I can find no answer in these forums and have had no response from support. Does anybody have any thoughts?

FYI I have various Gmail accounts, all of which work perfectly well with TB; the outlook accounts all work as they should using the Outlook software at work and Fairemail on my mobile.

IMAP sometimes shows email content, sometimes not in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
The Bat! v12.1, Windows 10 (w/ESU). I've added a new email address to The Bat! and apparently it has to be IMAP (it's a local ISP, not Gmail or one of those). This is probably my first IMAP account in The Bat!.
When I click on an email's subject line, sometimes it displays the email and sometimes it doesn't. I noticed in the bottom left corner of window, it will often say "TLS connection completed successfully", followed immediately by "Disconnected". That seems to be the times I don't get to see the email. Often I can get it by hitting "reply" or "forward", but I just want to read it.

I'll include a block fr om the log below (I've inserted blank lines wh ere time takes a jump in minutes). Is this something I'm doing wrong in The Bat!, or something on the ISP side?

The Bat! v12.1, Windows 10 (with ESU). Planning to clean out some old mail accounts and want to keep a copy available.

I ran a backup from Tools > Backup. Went surprisingly fast but did finish cleanly. Destination folder was "C:\Users\Andrew\Documents\Backups (various)"

If I navigate to that folder in File Explorer, I don't see the .TBK (there's a .zip in the attached screen capture, I ran that first).

If I search This PC for .TBK, I get one result, in "C:\Users\Andrew\Documents\Backups (various)" (!)

The screen capture here https://photos.app.goo.gl/UGjidFPanBRFJx4X8 shows both File Explorer windows, showing the difference. I blurred irrelevant stuff, and included Properties on the file that was found by search.

According to properties, the file isn't Hidden. Is there some reason I can't see the .TBK that's clearly there? (as far as I can tell).

Previously when I've typed two dashes in the PureHTML editor, it would automatically convert them (--) into a single em-dash. In 12.2, the editor now makes it into a mystery character that doesn't appear.

I guess switching to RichText will fix it, but it'd be nice to get regular -- parsing back again in PureHTML. (I don't see a way to turn it on and off within that editor.)

V12.2, W 11 Pro.

When I select a folder in the list of folders, it turns white, so the folder name text disappears. This text reappears when I select a message in the message list.

The exception to this is that the parent ("root") folder for each account remains visible.

This kind of feels as if a text colour setting for the active (focussed?) folder has been set to white, but I haven't found any settings for text colours.

I have just noticed that the text reappears if I switch to another window, so it feels very much related to focus. I was attempting to take a screenshot but using my graphics program re-enabled the white-out text. The attached file was created using the built-in alt+PrtScn method.

I don't use any of the usual names for email and wondering if the OAuth2 support is limited to gmail.com, outlook.com, etc.

A number of articles/videos are reporting that Windows share is reducing. Windows 11 with its: push to cloud storage, AI, privacy issues, need to be actively online and linked to MS account etc. People switching to Android and phones is another.

I've been a TB user for at least 15 years (currently on v10). With 12 email accounts it's an indispensable tool for managing my affairs. I particularly like the Alt+F2 for accessing all my email accounts in seconds.

There is a trend to webmail but using webmail it would take me 30 mins as my email provider web interface does not prompt password manager to enter the passwords and webapps are slow and rely too much on mice. TB has been very reliable (OK 1 feature I avoid as it looses my emails!).
I'm on Win 10 ESU so my thoughts are turning to moving to Linux and options:.

Wine: I did try TB under Wine many years ago and it seemed to work. There are now a number of Wine GUI front ends (e.g. Bottles, Phoenicis, Q4Wine)
Virtual Machine: I run a 16bit app in Virtual Box but only open a few times a week. Not tried TB and unsure if I / my computer could live with VB being open 10 hours a day (I usually have too many apps & windows open and need less!)
Other Windows under Linux options: A search indicates: Winboat (new), CrossOver, WinApps (with RDP).
Other email client s/w: Search gives: Thunderbird, Evolution, Mailspring, KMail, SeaMonkey, Geary, Blue Mail, Claws, Mutt, NeoMutt, Betterbird, Trojitá.
Key features for me are: able to import messages from TB, multiple POP accounts in one interface, can handle 10,000s emails, filters, flagging/tagging.

TB users considering moving off Windows, what have you tried and found best?

The Bat was doing a backup and was stuck part way through for 24 hours. I had to kill it from the Task Manager. Now when I launch it (after shutting down the computer and then booting), I get this error: "Could not register tab. Error -2147467259"

What can I do to get it to launch again?

The programme responds with delays lasting several seconds when new unread emails are clicked on. This is particularly noticeable when a large number of new emails (e.g. 100 after an absence) have arrived.

If the two highlighted options are disabled, the delay disappears.
However, monitoring is not enabled!

For the longest time I've been using the MailTicker feature of the The Bat.
I don't know why but it stopped working recently on its own.

I went into the setting and saw the Ticker was turned Off..
After I turned it On again is still is not working!

I go into:

Options/Preferences/Display MailTicker

Any ideas why it's not working now?
And how to fix it?

Currently when I compose a new e-mail or reply to one there are two fields at the top of the e-mail:
From: and Reply To:

If I click the drop down menu to the right of these fields a list of possible e-mail addresses shows up.
I can choose any of these addresses to use in these fields.

I would like to add a few more e-mail addresses to appear in the drop down menu.
Can someone please tell me how I go about adding more addresses?

Dear The Bat! Users!

I use The Bat! v.11.5.2 64-bit.

When I try to copy a fragment of an HTML message and paste it into another program, such as MS Word, the text is copied correctly, but the images are not. Instead of each image, an empty frame appears.

Has anyone encountered this behavior? Is there any way to change it in the settings?

I am leaving my position on a board and need to pass many years of emails to my successor..I use on the fly encryption with theBat!.
I've searched previous posts and see a limitation of being only able to export folder by folder.

I'd be appreciative of suggestions and things that might trip me up with this task.
Will I be able to pass on a .tbk file containing the messages that would be usable by someone else?
Does the act of exporting remove the message encryption?

I'm having a problem with the calendar.
When I open it, it opens blank.
I have Windows 11 25H2 and The Bat! 12.1 no auto update.
I've tried several versions of The Bat! and the same thing happens.
I deleted the test files from:
cef-data/Calendar
cef-data/Calendarmanager
but the problem persists.
Support is completely confusing.
After a few weeks, the only recommendation is to reinstall the program.
That was done at the very beginning.
I'm out of ideas.

Hello, I've been using The Bat! for years but have never used SmartBat.

When I went into SmartBat I discovered thousands of entries; entries I did not purposely make. I want to delete them as most are ancient.

I can delete them one-by-one but that will take forever.

I cannot Shift+Left Click to select many rows at once.

Can anyone advise how to delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks quickly?

Hi - are others having problems with mailbox view modes? I'm getting occasional crashes when trying to adjust the modes, whether through changing what message list column fields and their order, or in creating or editing view modes. Messages either aren't threaded, or when they are, the threads aren't expanded, even when I'm clicking "expand all threads" as part of a view mode. I also can't seem to retitle new view modes.

No, a bigger font size doesn't help, neither does changing the font.

Is there any setting to increase the row height?

hi, i had a company email account and that has been shut down. i still have many emails in my company account email folder (inbox & sent mails) i can no longer use the company account mail address (authentication failed) and i would like to keep the emails for later reference before deleting the actual account from my mail client [ the bat! voyager - version 12.0.3 (64-bit) ] ... oh yes, before anyone asks: i am using imap for all mail accounts.

i have tried marking the emails and moving them from the inbox of the discontinued account to the inbox of a different account but no matter if i copy cut paste nothing seems to work.

1) is it possible at all?
2) how must it be done?

next thing that i would need to know: when i finally delete the account from the mail program will it delete the account entirely? including the corresponding directories for that account as well, or must i manually delete something again?

any help would be great.

Hello,

I just moved to a new PC, and at the same time I upgraded The Bat! Pro from 10.6.x to current 12.03, and installed it on the new PC. Selected the old mailbox on another drive, and it offered to import all my accounts (about 30). The accounts all seemed to import correctly except one, which says 0 messages in all boxes/folders. I've checked the 0 message account and the backup, and data seem identical, so the data are there.

I can see that The Bat! is still causing constant disk activity and has for over an hour now, so I'm not sure if it's just now finished importing or what, so I dare not shut it down in case something should be messed up. So what's going on here, and what do I do?

When I send mail from my main ISP accounts using The Bat
they are sent.
I did some tests today, sending mail from one ISP account to another (I have around 6 accounts).

Then I waited and tried to receive the mail using The Bat. They never showed up!
I decided to go online to Yahoo Mail and check there (because my ISP partners with Yahoo Mail).

Sure enough the mail was received in the accounts I was checking for.
But The Bat didn't receive them! In one case I waited more than an hour.

This is not right obviously, and very important that I fix it.

Any suggestions?

SORRY,,, THIS SEEMS LIKE SUCH A SIMPLE PROBLEM,, IT SHOULD NOT EXIST,, but,
IT HAS ME STUMPED!!!
WHAT AM I MISSING GUYS????

PROBLEM: I want to Receive/Sort/Filter, Move Incoming emails from Several Credit Card Companies (Each a Different Inbound Email address at the Same Domain, and put them in a Single Folder called CC's..

IE.. Example: These emails sorted/Moved to a Folder called CC's
Chase@example.com
PNC@Example.com

PROBLEM... When you click Reply When looking at ONE Email(Chase@) for example, it uses the FOLDERS Identity Settings,,, INSTEAD OF using the Email address that was used to Receive the Email (Chase@)..

I don't see a way to CREATE a New Email,,, AS,, Either of those emails either... Only what is in the Folder Identity Settings.
These Two Emails are Fowarders..
Say the Main Email Account is Example@Example.com.
Chase@ and PNC@ are Forwarded to the Example@Example.com email address.
Example@ is the Email of the Email Account and picks up the Emails via POP3/SMTP..
The Emails IN that account come into The Bat as Chase@ and PNC@, and go into the Example@ email address Folder.
They are Sorted with Office Filters into Sub Folders Under example..
EVERYTHING works perfectly,,, UNTIL YOU CLICK REPLY, FORWARD, etc..
INSTEAD OF Chase@ or PNC@ replying,,, the Emails go out Example@ because of the Folder Identity Settings..

There MUST be a way to do this... It is just too efficient to be able to do this for it NOT to be something that can be done..
All Emails from Every Credit Card Company dropping into the Same CC's Folder, and each email able to be replied to, and RETURN to the SAME eMail Address... Right now, I don't see how this can be done???

NOTE: Just so there is no misunderstanding...
I KNOW this can be done with a Folder for EACH Email address. The Reply From and Address to email address fields filled out with the Email address for THAT FOLDER... THIS is the Problem.. I have too many folders and I am trying to consolidate the emails that I do not get a lot from..
I have been using the SAME EMAIL ADDRESS for a little over 20 years,,, BUT, someone got a hold of it lately, and I am getting 200-400 emails in that account every 2-3 days. And, they are NOT easy to filter out.. It is actually impossible..

I am going to have to Convert over to a different email address, but, I need to do some Organizing BEFORE I do that..
This is the best Idea I have at this point.

Anyone??? There MUST be a way to do this!
WHEN you are Reading the Inbound email, in the CC's folder, and you RIGHT CLICK on the Chase@ or PNC@ email address,, there is an Option to "Send "TO" This email Address"... Sounds crazy to send an email to yourself..
IF it said,,, Send "FROM" This email address, I would not be typing this right now, and it would make a WHOLE LOT MORE SENSE!!

Gmail recent mode, delete duplicates in forum The Bat! - Filters.
I want to use Gmail "Recent mode".
Problem is that for every mail I send I get a copy back. Ending up with duplicates.
So I need to set up a filter that deletes the copy.

Have noticed that the copy contains the header field "Return-Path", the outgoing email does not.

Have created a filter with "Additional params" with "Return-path" equals my email, but it does not match.
