Well, let's start with getting your stuff functioning again.
Rename the messages.tbb and .tbn files in your problem folder to .tbn.old and .tbb.old, that way TB will ignore them and you'll be able to use your old backup system.

I don't have a 100% solution for your problem, but you could try to create a new folder, let's call it Import.
Sel ect Import and pick from the menu:
Tools -> Import messages -> fr om TB message base v2 -> Browse to Archive and select the messages.tbb
OK I followed your instructions, it has created a tbn from scratch (i didn't move it with the tbb), but it behaves exactly the same as when it was in the trash folder: 264599 messages showing, 1 unread and none appear in the right pane.

For information, the new tbn is exactly the same size as the previous tbn.

So is my tbb corrupted and if so how can i get my messages back ?

Also, i must say it's not exactly the trash folder that was used, but a folder created by me and that was used as a trash, although i don't think it changes anything to the matter.
Ah, you're one of those people who use the trash folder as archive.
Personally I've never understood that. I prefer to keep my archives a little bit better organised.
However.
Start TB.
Create a new folder, let's call it Archive.
Close TB.
Copy the messages.tbb file from Trash to Archive.
Start TB, sel ect Archive
If the structure of the messages.tbb file is still intact thenm TB will create a new .tbn index file for Archive.
If that's done, continue with closing TB and deleting the .tbb and .tbn files fr om Trash, in order to get TB working properly again.

In case TB doesn't create a correct .tbn then it's likely that your messages.tbb has been corrupted.

In both cases the next step would be to organise your archiving method somewhat in order to prevent problems like this in the future.
A easy method would be to use an archive folder with subfolders for every year. Move every years messages in their own subfolder, that way the individual folders won't be excessively large and less prone to corruption.
Thank you but I certainly don't want to delete my messages, this is my history and is very helpful.
I want them to show up.

View -> Display -> All messages was already selected.

Today it's even worse: I have an unread message that made it through the trash folder (probably due to my filters, nothing unexpected).
Yet as i can't read it, the bat icon keeps animated to warn me i have a message to read.

Please help me to find a way to recover my messages. It has worked ok for years until now. Some index must be broken.
First you could try to sel ect the trash folder and pick fr om the menu:
View -> Display -> All messages
If that doesn't help, close TB, use the explorer to go to the trash folder and delete the messages.tbb and .tbn files (or rename them to messages.tbb.old and .tbn.old if you're not comfortable with actually deleting them) Start TB again, select the trash folder and now it should be empty.

In order to prevent this kid of problems in the future you could enable:
Account -> Properties -> Options -> Empty trash folder on exit
Hi,

I have a trash folder showing 264593 messages, but when i sel ect it, it looks empty, there are no messages in the right pane.
The .tbb / .tbn files are still on the disk (almost 1 GB in size).

I'm using this folder to delete my inbox messages, and now they refuse to delete, I guess they refuse to go in that folder. When i delete them, they disappear fr om the list, but the inbox count remains the same, when I'm back in inbox hey are still here.
If i move them manually to the trash folder, it's the same, but if i move them to any other folder it works.

I tried everything possible, in the maintenance tools, compacting etc. couldn't fix that.

What should I do ?
