I am not sure I understand what you are searching for. If you are searching within files and the Windows search doesn't do it, you MAY need one of those specialized tools
Here is one that I keep in my tray, but it does NOT search within files
<noindex>http://www.voidtools.com/</noindex>
Indeed, the searchin TheBat is pretty good.

But then the search is also good in Word and Excel and Acrobat and Outlook and Explorer and... The point is that these are all disparate and separate applications, and people pay to not have to use the separate programs to do a global search. It is a real drag to search all your PDFs with one program, then all your Word docs with another, than all your email with... you get the drift.
You can do searching within the Bat
Right click on a folder and pick "search" (or on the file list and CONTROL+F)
Add as much criteria as you want and pick your folders (note what is on the advanced tab while you are at it)
Then search!

External search in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Is it currently possible for an external application to search TheBat messages? Could it be made possible?

The reason I ask is because there are various indexing engines around, and one thing they all do is search (and display) Outlook messages, and Lotus Notes messages, etc. Two examples are:

<noindex>http://www.x1.com/products/professional-client</noindex>
<noindex>http://zekira.com/</noindex>

Unfortunately, they know nothing of TheBat, and people may end up using Outlook, or some other common email app, just so their search tool can index their email. This kind of barrier to TheBat use could be removed if there was a search API or other means of integrating with external indexing engines.
