Windows credentials in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
It sounds like this account is using IMAP. No other reason for a server logon to be triggered by clicking on an email. TB has a number of sophisticated login options for IMAP access. Any one of those settings can trigger a prompt fr om AVG for the first email access and none for a while after.

Disable your AVG email scanner and see if it still happens. If it doesn't, whether Thunderbird causes the same thing to happen or not, it's an AVG issue, not a TB one. If it still happens when AVG is disabled then I still don't know why.

The fact remains that the prompt isn't from TB. It's a bit of a stretch to be asking TB experts the cause of the problem. We are not employees of RITlabs - we're volunteers. And there are not many here. The preferred support forum is the TBUDL mailing list, wh ere hundreds of users are around to offer possible answers.
Nop, one login session but a credential windows each time the message is clicked.

Yes but i think TB is implied in why the credentials is triggered. Why ? because i tested thunderbird and emclient and it never happens.
I imagine It would ask you once per login session.

Since it's not TB asking you for the password, it's not really an appropriate question here. I don't know for sure and I'm only giving you best guesses.
It reads your emails and traps virus infected messages before your email client even sees them. That's why it needs your login. I disabled this in AVG, trusting myself and TB not to execute an infected attachment.
Ah, no. many antivirus packages trap access to email ports and try to intercept the data directly. I remember Avast used to pop up telling me not to use SSL because it spoiled its interception techniques and AVG used to ask me for my login and password details. It's very specific to email access and not generic at all.
Nothing that let guess it's from the antivirus. then i suppose the behaviour would be much more generic, so much more meail messages concerned.
When I said "This will be ticked for the account that is causing the issue" I was implying that you should un-tick it to stop the prompts from appearing.

If the prompts coming up are from outside TB, could they be from your antivirus interfering with the natural order of things?
Ah - so this prompt is not from the OS, but from the account manager of TB asking you to provide username/password details.

In Account .. Properties, on the "Transport" settings page, in the section "Receive mail" there is an "Authentication..." button. Click this. In the dialog that pops up is a "Do not store the password, prompt on mail retrieval" check box. This will be ticked for the account that is causing the issue.
In fact, it's just a classical windows from the os, so i don't have "Add to certificate store", it just ask username, password and optionnaly can memorize the password if checkbox is checked.

From now, it happens only on some messages of a particular user
Sorry - just noticed this topic thread. I have an answer for you.

The credentials Windows is disputing are those of the mail server's SSL certificate. I run my own mail server and every time I connect a new windows install or new client to the mail server, Windows disputes my own, self generated certificate.

All you have to do is view the certificate details to verify that this is what it is about and use the "Add to certificate store" options available from there.

Hope that helps.
