Just to close out this topic for anyone reading it.

I went to the security settings of Windows 7 and stopped the Nag about allowing the programs to make changes to my computer. Of course that also removes that same Nag when installing any new software.

My early version Bat works just fine on Windows 7 without running as Administrator, or using XP mode.

Create a shortcut to launch the bat then go in and give it administrator access - it is on the same tab in the shortcut properties as the compatibility settings. Also you can shut off the nag screen which in windows 8 is a royal pain
Did the bat install to Program files xd86? If it installed elsewhere none of this may work unless you add yoursell to the folder and it's contents with full access

I did successfully install Bat version 1.6 on windows 7. I did not bother trying to import an existing backup file -- I just went ahead and set up a couple of accounts.

mfba: I did have to jump through a couple of hoops that had to do with running in xp compatibility mode. But right now, every time I open it (directly in Wndows 7 -- not in the virtual xp machine that Windows 7 supports), I get the nag asking if I want to allow Bat to make changes on my computer. I say yes, and all proceeds just fine.

I would like to avoid that nag, and wonder if it has anything to do with running in xp compatibility mode. Do you know how to prevent the nag?

You might possibly need to edit the shortcut you click to run TB! so that windows opens TB! in "compatibility mode" for XP.

Are you sure? The upgrade policy linked from the purchase page still says otherwise.

The only thing to do is try it. It should install into C:\Program Files (x86) and you can put your data anywhere
Old backups don't work with the newer bat versions and aren't real reliable generally. Copy the entire data folder somewhere else Then before you install copy the mail folder into the Programdata folder (Mine is in C:\ProgramData\The Bat!" and then when you install, navigate to that folder and it SHOULD pick up everything
Keep in mind that I never used 1.6 so it may install the data somewhere else (like the hidden appdata folder in the user's folder).
Upgrading is worth it however and if you do it now, the license is good until v7 and v6 is in alpha now!

I have been using Bat Version 1.6 on my XP computer forever. I like it, does everything I need.

Got a new laptop with Windows 7.

Question 1: Will my old version run on Windows 7 or do I need to upgrade?

Question 2: If I do upgrade (I might, regardless of 1) I assume I can still use a backup file made from my Version 1.6, Correct?
