The 454 is the number of messages in the folder itself, (42) is the number of messages in the subfolders of that folder.

I have a question about the Total column in the account/folders window pane.
I have some which show a number then a another number in parathesis. eg: 454 (42)
What does the (42) mean? TIA Doug
