Two questions

Two questions Recent problems with The Bat Pro v3.99 in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
My problems have been resolved. As I suspected, the issue of retrieving messages from the server was due to changes made at the server end when they "improved" their software, compounded by badly worded written instructions on their web site for customers who were unable to access their e-mail. TheBat! did not contribute to THIS problem.

I spent several hours on the phone waiting to speak with customer support - obviously MANY other people were also having problems due to the server change. Once I was able to speak with a human being, the problem was resolved within literally less than 60 seconds.

This experience brings up a couple of questions.

First, if I were to think about updating from v 3.99 to the current version, what would the advantages be for someone whose needs are just simple home e-mail usage ?

Second, if I were to update from v 3.99 to the current version, would the current version use my existing compressed files of older messages, or would it be necessary to run some separate software to convert my v 3.99 files to a different format usable by the current version?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

 - Tom -
Thank you for the help.

Deleting the access password has restored the visibility of my old messages. I am still having a problem getting new messages from the server, but I suspect that this may be due to the changes made by the provider. I will work on that and perhaps spend some more time on the phone with the provider's support. If it looks like that problem is at my end, I may come back with more questions.

Thank you again for the help.

 - Tom -
Hello. I am new here although I use BAT since a long time. The version v3 (year 2207) I use (before in Russia and now in Switzerland) has performed well. I seem to have a similar problem as Tom. A week ago I suddenly could not anymore access my mail box with my Swiss provider SWISSCOM. The message read: "CANNOT SEND MAIL, user name/password incorrect". I have 3 mail boxes and all three were unaccessable. SWISSCOM gave me a new password so that I could access their site. There I discovered that the password which I had registered for the 3 mail addresses had been completely altered. I therefore set a new password within the server, identical for each of the three e-mail addresses and repeated it within my BAT software. So far so good. Out of curiosity I went into ACCOUNT and set an access password. I quickly realized that I did not need it and removed it from all three E-mail addresses. Strangely enough the removal only worked on two E-mail addresses. The 3rd one kept on asking me for the password. A couple of hours later when I entered again the password I got and still get the message "Please input account password for .....@ ......ch." but the password I had initially registered is not being recognized anymore. I get the message: "The password you had previously entered was invalid. Please input account password.....". Now I cannot anymore look up any of my old messages and feel extremely frustrated. Has my BAT software been infected by a virus steeling my password? I scanned with KASPERSKY but did not get any warning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jack.
My impression is that you didn't change the password that TB sends to the server:
Account -> Properties -> Transport -> Password
But that you set an access password for your account:
Account -> Set access password
Try to delete the access password, that might do the trick.

Two questions Recent problems with The Bat Pro v3.99 in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
I am currently struggling with two problems with The Bat that should be minor, but which I cannot seem to solve. Any suggestions for solutions would be very much appreciated.

I have been using The Bat Pro for many years (I think that I started with version 1.x) but stopped updating at version 3.99 because it did everything I desired, and did it well. I have had almost no problems until last week, when the ISP who provides my e-mail service introduced a “new and improved” interface that – among other changes – required me to change my password to include at least one “special character”, such as #, *, or @.

In the process of changing the password (I added a * to the end of the existing password) that is automatically sent by The Bat when I log on to get my e-mail, I somehow created two problems. The first problem is that it appears to have created a new account inside The Bat with the same name as my old account, but with none of the subfolders that I had previously created, and with no messages in it. (This is confirmed by the file size, which is only 3kb.)

The existing account appears to be untouched, as a file manager shows it in the old location with a file size of several gigabytes. Any ideas about how I can get rid of what appears to be a new account, and have The Bat pull up the old account with the same name that contains all of my old messages?

The second problem is that every time I attempt to access any of the menu system (such as Properties or Download) a dialog box appears asking me for the account password. Any ideas about how I can turn off this behavior?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Tom
