Reisntalling Windows and The Bat Steps to take to make sure I keep all my settings in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Hi Andy,

I have done several re-installs of Windows and TheBat, and use a simple method that has worked for me every time. While perhaps not as elegant as the solution from Leonid, all I claim is that it has worked here such that I can be checking e-mails as soon as I get the Windows install working.

Caveat: Let me say that this has worked on my Win7x64 re-installs / fresh installs, with my Bat installation on drive E of a C - (Windows) / D - (Programs) / E - Personal Files configuration. The following is just broad strokes and not ultra detailed:

1. For safety, I make a Rar archive backup of my entire TheBat directory on the E drive.
2. I go into the RegEdit program and export / make a backup file of the entire RIT / TheBat registry hive at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT
3. Re-install Windows {on Drive C}
4. After everything in the Windows installation has been stabilized, I find the exported Registry file from step 2 and double click on it - which introduces the TheBat entries back into the registry.

Usually at that point I can start TheBat and everything works fine, simply making a shortcut and placing it on the start menu / quick launch bar and move on. It can be a good time to check if there is an update, and just install it over the intact TheBat directory - since the registry entries are present, it acts as though there is a good working installation on the machine, and all is well.

I don't have to change or check for configured mail directories - all has been restored from the registry file. If TheBat pulls a Hal9000 after it starts up {which has never happened}, no problem: I still have the Rar'd backup directory with everything intact so I don't have to worry about anything being damaged or lost.

Again, I only claim that these steps have worked for me several times over the years with no issue - your mileage may vary.

Best of Luck,

Ron
Hi,

I've seen a very old post from 2004 and this page:
====code====

http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/howdoi.shtml#How should I back up The Bat!

=============
Is this the correct way? Or is there a new method for newer versions of the BAT?
