I use virtual folders extensively for inbox trash spam etc.Play tits this feature as you can filter color groups, tags and a lot more then make the virtual folder filter and sort to yet more criteria. I have a hotkey to assign a color group called "ART" and I use it in many folders which are sorted by date. The virtual folder shows only those flagged as ART and sorts them alphabetically which is what I need
Yes, you are correct.

I think I get it. So if I want it as in my old Eudora, I need to create virtual mail boxes for In, Out and Trash and then filter mail to show there?

One thing I don't understand though. If these folders are virtual, why is a physical disk folder created, even if an empty one?

And I see there are Virtual folders and Folders. Are the non virtual folders real folders where the mail can be physically moved? Can I create one (real) folder for each mailing list I'm on and apply filter rules to have the posts physically moved there or will they still be in the account folders anyway?

This might work for me even if it's confusing right now. The Bat has threading which I've missed all the years with Dora and it has what Dora calls labels, i.e. color coding of individual mail. That has become important to me and I didn't even know The Bat had it.

Thanks for your help. I'll try to figure this virtual folder thing out, but I'm grateful for any further help you can offer.
I assume you use POP3 rather than IMAP. Correct?

If so, I think what you want to do is create either a folder or virtual folder and set up a filter to sort all incoming mail to that folder.

My set up which accomplishes the same thing is to let TheBat download mail into the Inbox for each of my accounts but I have a virtual folder set up that combines all the Inboxes into one and from there I can move, copy reply, etc. I've done the same for my Trash and Sent folders.
Hello!

I'm trying out The Bat!. I like many things but alas how the folders/mail boxes work isn't one of them. I don't want a folder with inbox and so on for each email address. I want one inbox, one outbox and one trash bin for all accounts. I want incoming mail to go to a common inbox unless I choose to sort/filter them otherwise. For example I want to have a folder for mailing lists with a mailbox for each list I'm on, no matter what email addresses I use for different lists. I don't want to have my list mailboxes spread all over the place. I want to find them all in the same folder and preferably I want to be able to handle backup that way too.

I really hope this can be changed so I can use The Bat!. I don't really expect that it can, but I have to ask. The program seems to have the features I want otherwise, but I simply couldn't live with this way of sorting.
