Well, the good news is that I switched SMTP ports and it started working (using Dreamhost 587 rather than 25). It's not clear to me why this works fine in Thunderbird and not in The Bat. But maybe it helps someone else.
I have a similar problem, but I'm getting a reply from the server:
====code====

SEND - Server reports it is not ready, reply: "* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 UIDPLUS CHILDREN NAMESPACE THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT THREAD=REFERENCES SORT QUOTA IDLE STARTTLS] Courier-IMAP ready. Copyright 1998-2008 Double Precision, Inc. See COPYING for distribution information."

=============
This doesn't happen with Thunderbird (or Android K9).

I added a Gmail account to The Bat as well, and that account sends email just fine.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Is there a compatibility problem with the server?
It sounds like you tried everything you could..

Could it be that a firewall is blocking SMTP for The Bat?

Have you checked the log file of the account in question? Note that under Options in the account properties, you can turn 'verbose logging' on, which should provide more detail. Alternatively you could use a packet inspection tool like WireShark to capture and examine the session.
Hi.

I downgraded to version 6.8. I first uninstalled version 7, then installed 6, same problem. I can get all the email I want but I'm unable to send any email. All I send is in the outbox and never sent on internet. Even if I click on "send queued mail", nothing happens.

Again I can send mail from Eudora since 20 years. I've tested some days ago Pegasus Mail or Thunderbird, it works perfectly fine and I'm able to send any email I want with those programs. I was afraid at first I made a mistake with a port or something like that. But I tried others emails clients and no problem with them. However I want to use TheBat and I do not understand why I'm not able to send anything. It's a complete mystery.

I'm on windows 10 64bits. TheBat 64bits version.

Anyone can help me? I'm soon going to give up and use Thunderbird, It's a real pity. That is beyond me, I can't understand what's going on.

Even with the basic settings, no ssl, just the good old port 25, "connection regular" and "Authentication" with either "perform SMTP..." ticked or not, it's the same. It works on others program on port 25 or SSL on others ports, not in TheBat.

Thanks.
Hi.

I come from Eudora 8, using it (and earlier versions of course) for 20 years. Time to go to another program as Eudora is dead for many years.

I'm trying now TheBat which seems one of the closest, reliable and allowing a lot of things.

So I'm able to get my mail. I've configured imap, SSL, everything is running smooth.

However I'm unable to send any messages!!! I've configured the smtp server:

smtp.orange.fr

I've been using the correct port from my isp, as recommanded by it. I tried different ports, 25 and 587, encrypted (ssl) or no ecryption, same. Each time I send the email, it goes in the outbox and stays there forever. Even if I click the "send queued mail", nothing happens. I don't know exactly what outbox stand for, I suppose for draft or temporary email, still not sent and being written.

With my old Eudora, of course I'm able to send mail, fortunately since 20 years!

I even tried today with Thunderbird. I told myself lets try another program to see what happens. On port 25 or 587, it works. But I'm unable to make the email being sent in SSL through thunderbird, but with my email adress, my password and the ports above, the mail is sent and I download it under TheBat without problem.

Any people here from France with isp Orange? Any idea from others people why even TheBat doesn't tell me something is wrong? Because just to see, I entered a wrong port for imap, TheBat gives me an error. But for the sending stuff, I get nothing wrong, even if I configure a bad Port, a wrong password, when I press the button to send my email, it goes in the oubox.

I'm using TheBat 7.1.6.0.

Thanks for any help, hints, etc...
