BayesFilter by Achim Winkler works perfectly well for me. the original Bat spam filter didn't.
I understand your problem.
I can imagine that one of the plug-in authors would include the functionality to check against the address book.
However, the options to exclude anybody you've ever written too is a bit more difficult, TB doesn't store your addressees, so the only option to check them would be to check them against your full message base and that would be rather slow.
Adding an extra menu option to whitelist addresses for the anti-spam plug-in would cause additional problems, since Ritlabs doesn't produce a anti-spam plug-in by themselves and I don't even know whether all anti-spam plug-ins support whilelists.

But since BayesIt doesn't produce optimal results for you, you could try BayesFilter by Achim Winkler or one of the many pop3-proxy spam-filters.
I have trained the bat on over 3000 not junk emails. I don't think that the extra couple "not junk" I do will help. I started just marking the ones as not junk, a while ago, but it makes no difference.

The thing is that it is catching junk mail that is obviously not junk, since the people are in my address book or I just wrote to them. In my case, that will eliminate 99% of my false junk mails.
The best thing when you're getting non spam in your junk folder is to mark them as not junk, that way BayesIt learns to recognize them as proper mail. Whitelisting is telling BayesIt that they're exceptions.

Your experience with BayesIt is opposite to mine. Over here it fails to recognize some spam, but I've never found good mail in the junk folder.
Hello,

I think the Bat is the best email client I have ever used. However, the major weakness in my opinion seems to be the SPAM filtering. I have a 95% threshold in the Bayes-It filter, however, a significant amt of real mail gets in the junk mail folder. I have to check it every day. However, a few small features would help. I continually have to add people to my whitelist, which is an annoying process.

An option to not mark as junk anything from anyone in your address book.
An options to not mark as junk anything from anyone you have ever written an email too (with an option to remove someone from the list).
An option to right click on a message and "add sender to whitelist".

Those three things would dramatically decrease false positives.
