Just checking I understand: for a family of 5 with 3 computers, I should buy 3 licenses, as each computer can only have one live user at a time?

Home license is intended for non-commercial usage, it is a single-user license and has a number of functional constraints, and so it's cheaper. You can install it on many devices, but you and your family members may work with one instance at a time. If your people intend to work simultaneously with the program, you should purchase that number of licences.
