FOUND IT!

The problem seems to be related to starting TheBat 3.5 with a shortcut that has the option to run as a minimised window. For some reason that makes 3.5 crash on startup every time here. Ought to be fixable so that the program is Windows compatible on this little detail as well.

<noindex>http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/kaziglu/helpdesk/thebat-3.png</noindex>

Any moderator, feel free to edit the original topic to (solution found) or something.
Thanks for your replies.
Uninstalling and installing again seems to work fine with the current version so I haven't had any problems with that part.
The best result so far has come from installing in a custom folder, then I could actually get into the program once. (a secondary oddity at that point was that instead of minimising to the tray the program just disappeared, without closing) But after having closed the program once then the same error comes back again every time starting it up. Tried with both importing and a second time making a new account and the result is the same.
1. Install TheBat! (when you are installing Pro version make a little attention on data encryption option - old databases are not encrypted ...).
2. Check information about default MAIL folder (long time ago it was program folder, now it somewhere in Application Data of windows user).
3. Create an account with the same name as existing folder (or inform TheBat! about folder name).
4. Check account settings ... all should be imported.

It should work ... tested last time with "first" 3.5 version, when I've uninstalled everything - all was properly importd.

Regards
Marcin
I had this problem too, the only thing I could do was Uninstall The Bat via Add remove programs, then when I went to install 3.5 again it prompted me to uninstall 3.5 again! Then it worked!

However all of My The Bat settings were lost. all of my accounts and such. the Account data is still on my hard drive but the bat doesn't see it any more.

and even when I recreate the account it doesn't pickup the old data

Ive also decided to try the spam filter plug in, but every time I start the bat I have go go add it?!

Grrr

I've read the recent threads with similar issues but since these messages are somewhat different I guess it might be best with another thread. I've tried three different versions of TheBat 3.5 home and they all crash similarly on my system after having chosen the location of the application data. With the 1-Jun-2005 version I get two error messages after wich the program remains in the process list but nothing else shows up. Have tried two different places for the data, as well as installing with and without the spam filter. The single account on this WinXP-SP2 has admin rights and the system is perfectly stable.

Any ideas on what more I could try would be appreciated as I really want to try 3.5.

1) Access violation in address 00A7C0B4 - 00000010
<noindex>http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/kaziglu/helpdesk/thebat-1.png</noindex>

2) Exception (0x0eedfade) location 0x7c81eb33
<noindex>http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/kaziglu/helpdesk/thebat-2.png</noindex>
