Thank you to everyone.  My husband ended up updating to the latest version of The Bat and that seems to have fixed it.  I don't know why but he is happy and things are working.  But, I will certainly keep all the information in this thread to have on hand because I have a feeling that things will get messed up with Google again in the future.

I have pretty much moved away from using my Gmail account and have several email accounts that I pay a small amount for.  They seem to be much more secure and I don't have to worry about the next interfering move that Google makes.

I can't find a way to give permission for The Bat.  Actually, I have it OK but my husband needs to add The Bat to his Google account.  I can't remember how I was able to do it.  It seems like it was done through The Bat but he is not getting any kind of prompt in order to do it.

Can someone please tell me how to set up The Bat as a recognized Third Party App with Google?  I can't seem to find any place to do that.  Thank you.
