With big probability the answer is yes. Even if new version of TB! won't understand old version of backup you can do a trick - install old TB!, restore backup and then do upgrade version of your TB!

If I were to purchase the latest version of The Bat home version to install on a new, second computer would I be able to use a .tbk backup file from my older pro (ver. 6.8.8) install on a different computer to update the new install with accounts and other backup info?
