I have view modes set up, but I have still managed to lose some of my settings or accidentally change something I didn't want to.

Column settings are dependant on the selected threading, whether that's a bug or a feature depends on your point of view, I go for the latter.

The way to keep this from happening is with view modes, you can define view modes assign them to certain folders while other folders get different view modes.

You can play with view modes from:
Options -> Preferences -> Messages -> View modes

You can also access them from:
Folder -> Folder view mode -> Manage view modes

I have sent this to Ritlabs. Is anyone else finding this to be a problem?
