I think you'd best report this and the SmartBat change directly to Ritlabs by creating a support ticket (see Support in the menu at the top). When you do, also mention your Windows version and if you were using the plain text or HTML editor. Please let us know what they say when you hear back from them.

When I press Shift+Ctrl+= then the Character uppercase (x with 2 in the upper right corner) changes, no calculation is done in the body of the message. Worked in v8, recently upgraded to v9.5.1, does not work.

Can you confirm?
