Does this happen to all or just some files? If 'some', what are their names?
Are you sure that those files have not simply arrived as attachments in multiple messages?
Have you run CHKDSK to see if there are any problems in the file structure of the harddrive?

In my attachment folder files are making copies of themselves.

There appears to be no limit.

hundreds of copies appear over time.
