I seem to get unique faults that no-one else sees.

Thank you for the link. I managed to interpolate (or extrapolate?) the correct URI for 11.3 and my immediate problems are cleared.

I had a "dirty" shut-down problem for a long time, and some awkward interaction between The Bat! and AntiSpamSniper. The techies were not able to solve this, but it went away when The Bat! was up-issued. I forget the exact version number where this came about.
It's set for 60 s, but maybe that's just a bit too long. You can write a fair amount in 60 s. Then poof! There was probably some invalid data in your messagebase, or in an index. I don't think it was related to any particular viewer at all.

As for losing editor text when a crash occurs, are you using the periodic auto-save function at all? Strange, the plain text viewer is the only one I never had any trouble with...

The German TB forum documents the links to all versions (installers on the RitLabs site): <noindex>https://www.batboard.net/board/73-the-bat-final/</noindex>
Thanks, Daniel and Miloš.

I am aware of the multiple processes, including those in the background. What you say about CEF seems to fit with my symptoms.

My issue is not with HTML, but plain text. I would prefer to read plain text in the basic (no smileys) viewer, but this is where I get the blank page. Switching to the ugly Rich Text mode fixes this, but I can't work with the fonts it uses.

Checking the message base integrity is good advice. Having to kill TB! every day always leaves me uneasy that it isn't able or being allowed to do an orderly shut down.

Having said all this, I still haven't found an alternative email client that meets all my needs and preferences. I'd be very reluctant to have to abandon The Bat!
The only pop-up windows I get from TB are from the scheduler/calendar, reminding me of events (but never in this locked-up form). Go to Tools -> Scheduler and see what's going on. Try deleting all the tasks if there are any. What I find problematic with these is that once a message with an event invitation is viewed it will automatically be added to the scheduler and calendar, no matter how old. The calendar can be disabled, but I didn't find a way to stop this from happening with the scheduler. However, for me it's just a minor annoyance.

Regarding HTML viewing, v11.4.1 introduced a major new version of CEF which is full of problems. I recommend rolling back to v11.4 or v11.3 (which I found to be most stable v11). Even with these there is a running problem - CEF can sometimes lock up and it's processes remain in the background. The solution is to either restart Windows or kill those processes before starting TB again. There will be 3-6 TB background processes to kill in the Task Manager when TB itself is not running.
I'd run the Maintenance Center to check the integrity of the message base and if that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall The Bat.

(I always make a backup of my entire mail folder before doing any of these things - its location is found under Options | Preferences | System).
Is it just me?

Once, twice a day I have to stop and restart The Bat! via Task Manager because there is an unresponsive modal dialogue. This also usually happens at the end of the day when I close down the computer.

<noindex>https://imgbox.com/BjKn65N9</noindex>

Plain text view of messages now normally results in a blank pane. If I view the message source I often see there is a plain text part. I will be able to see this plain text part this if I switch to the "Rich Text" viewer, but that uses a horrible serif font which is too small for my old eyes.

It's a real pain if that modal dialogue pops up when I'm composing a message. I can't do anything other than restart the program, losing whatever I have typed.

The Bat! Home Edition v 11.4.1
Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26100
