Wikipedia: "The IDLE feature allows IMAP email users to immediately receive any mailbox changes without having to undertake any action such as clicking on a refresh button, or having the email client automatically and repeatedly ask the server for new messages."

So, with IDLE turned off you would need to check for incoming messages manually, but may help with your issues. The other option, resending the IDLE command every 30 seconds could keep the server "on its toes", maybe that could help. Just brainstorming, I have no idea whether any of these will really help in your case.

I'd be interested in how to tune the idle options.  I looked for this when I first initiated IMAP but found little.

As to close and reopen TB, I do so at least twice daily, but will try doing so more often.

v11.4.0 I do have sometime duplicated unread messages from IMAP (not an Outlook service). Close and re-open TB! helps.

I don't use Outlook nor had anything like this happen to me. But you could check and play around with some options in:
Account -> Properties -> Mail Management
Account -> Properties -> Mail Management -> IMAP Fine-Tune
Account -> IMAP Commands -> Manage IMAP folders

Maybe allowing a small number of connections (1?), something with the IDLE command...

So, I changed my (personal)  Outlook account to IMAP in Sept., when MS was deprecating POP.  I've had a number of issues since then.

The latest:  Periodically, perhaps every ten sent messages, the send stalls.  When it finally finishes, I have anywhere from 2 to 30 "parked" partially sent messages in addition to the final sent message, in my outlook IMAP "sent" folder.  This is annoying.  How do I rectify this?

Thanks.  And, headaches notwithstanding, thanks to Ritlabs for The Bat.  I have 8 active e-mail accounts, and this is the best way I've found to deal with it.
