Well, I looked everywhere, and it seems the $cef$ folder hasn’t been implemented in version 10 yet. Clearing the cache from the configuration menu didn’t help either.

I noticed that, out of the five accounts I have in The Bat!, only the Inbox folder of one account was causing issues — specifically, the one with the largest number of emails (around 30K, in case that matters). In the end, I created a new account for that Gmail address so a new Inbox would be generated, and so far, it hasn’t caused any problems.
It'd be good to know when this issue is solved in version 12 because I might consider to upgrade.
Using version 10.5.4
=============

I observed that the delays caused by history can happen with the alternative HTML viewer as well, albeit not as pronounced. But the combo of history and CEF can be brutal...

The cache folder for CEF could be somewhere else in v10, or differently called, I wasn't paying attention back then. In v11 and v12 it is in the mail directory, folder called "$cef$", subfolder "Cache". Also check the installation folder in "Program Files" or wherever TB is installed.

If you find it, try moving the contents somewhere else first to be on the safe side, as I haven't tried this in v10.
I was about to report that, after disabling it, I had no instances of orphan CEF processes, but it happened yesterday... and only once. Before it was a daily occurrence.

It's kind of strange since I had the history set up to only track outgoing messages, but it seems that all folders were being scanned anyway.

Apparently, the history tracker would delay the viewing of messages so much that CEF processes would crash. Yes, CEF is a bit slower than the alternative HTML message viewer, but now we're talking in milliseconds, not seconds or minutes.

This is useful information, thanks for letting us know. Please also notify support using the link above, as this is something that should perform instantly on today's computers.

I found that manually clearing the CEF browser cache helps a lot with such slowdowns: <noindex>https://www.ritlabs.com/en/auth-forums/forum4/topic16681/</noindex>

Relatively recently I gave up on CEF altogether and use TB with the /ForceNoCEF command-line option. Rendering of HTML messages is a bit uglier and clunkier, but the speed and responsiveness have gone WAY up.
The programme responds with delays lasting several seconds when new unread emails are clicked on. This is particularly noticeable when a large number of new emails (e.g. 100 after an absence) have arrived.

If the two highlighted options are disabled, the delay disappears.
However, monitoring is not enabled!

<noindex>https://mega.nz/file/CJoBXY6B#QCAxnQDhOSsKlfsFFKl2QjVA4a0zVFecqAnbwjVkF1o</noindex>

Windows 11
The Bat 12.1
POP3
