You'd best submitt this bug to bug-track, it's the first time I've heard about it. By submitting it to bugtrack the developers get to know about it, here they can overlook it. Here's a canned text:

You can insert bugs in the bugtracker, by logging in to:
<noindex>https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/main_page.php</noindex>
Choose 'The Bat' and add a new item.
First check whether someone has reported the same bug, then you can
add a note to that bug.
Bugs that are reported by more users are more likely to get attention
than bugs by one. And the system isn't smart enough to understand
that bugs might be the same.
And add just one bug per entry. Makes everything easier, both for
other users who want to add a note and for the developers.

If I would e-mail you a file, for example a .jpg, but I would encrypt it with PGP first before sending it to you, right, then you would receive an e-mail with a file attachment ending in .pgp

So say you have many e-mails that contain .pgp attachment files and you restore your backup to an install of The Bat that uses the new encrypted message base feature, then these attachments can no longer be saved/opened/accessed. They are lost, 0kb in size.

Is there, will there be a fix for this problem?
Restore the messages to their original location and then tell TB to move it to your new location.
Account -> Properties -> Files & Directories

I don't what you mean with pgp attachments, so I can't give you any advice on that.

Installed new The Bat Version 3.6 on new machine with option to encrypt the message base.

Imported backup from same The Bat Version 3.6 Pro, but previously the message base was plain text.

Backup worked, but all .pgp attachments are destroyed, if I save them they are 0kb in size and can't be opened. A real nightmare, I can not use the feature to encrypt the message base because I need my backup with the pgp file attchments.

I tried alternatively to specify that The Bat should store Mail on another drive letter, which I mount from a .pgd (pgp disk) file. unfortunately when restoring the backup, The Bat does not restore accounts to the new location where the account had sub-folders I created. So out of 30 mail accounts, 5 or 6 did not have their message base files on the new drive, but under Program Files, unencrypted. Apart from the hassle that not all accounts would have been stored in one place .. This problem occurs whenever any other location for the Mail base is specified, other than Program Files - There are always some folders from my backup that get restored to Program Files, so if I want to have all in one place, I have no choice but to keep the message base under Program Files ..

There are more and more very bad issues with The Bat, my only favorite e-mail client since early versions.
