Sorry but I do not know what you mean by "run thebat.exe /REG:something" (or "test" or "anything") What do you mean by "run"? How do I "run" this? I am not at all familiar with the terminology you are using or commandline procedures. I do not know what a "batch file" is. Sorry, you are dealing with a long time computer user who likes icons and links and graduated from a Macintosh. If you are willing to give me the step by step procedure to do one example of this then I can create the rest of the instances on my own.

if You run thebat.exe /REG:something and this registry tree doesn't exists, TB will create it and next time You run it, setting will be used.

You can create batch file for example "run.bat" in every folder with thebat.exe which will contain

"C:\Program Files\The Bat!TEST\theBat.exe" /reg:TEST

etc.

Is this clear?

====quote====
Marek Mikus wrote:
for example if You run thebat.exe /REG:TEST, there will be created new registry tree
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!TEST" and setting for this instance will be saved in it.
=============

Thanks for your help. That sounds like just what I want to do, but I am not quite sure how to go about this. How would I "run" "thebat.exe /REG:TEST"? That is, how do I create a registry tree for each instance I wish to create? How do I set up a shortcut to each of the new "instances" of The Bat so that each one has its own settings etc? What do you mean by "setting for this instance will be saved in it"? What is "it"? Will the settings be saved in the registry key for this instance? Finally, how do I specify a different data directory for each instance?
Folder identities are useful, but if You asked about more instances, You can do this (sorry Roelof ) using /REG:string commandline parameter, I am using it everyday.

for example if You run thebat.exe /REG:TEST, there will be created new registry tree
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!TEST" and setting for this instance will be saved in it.

When You run default thebat.exe without /REG, it will use registry tree "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!".
You can't run multiple instances of TB. What you wnt can be best be done with folder identities.

Search TB's help and this forum for 'folder identity' and you'll get several hits regarding this topic.
 I'm using The Bat! Version 3.71.03
under Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4

 I am switching to The Bat from Eudora which allows me to have several
 "instances" of the program running copies in operation at the same time.
 I have a different data location and a
 different shortcut icon for each "instance" which points to the
 appropriate data location and to the main Eudora.exe file. Only one
 copy of the Eudora.exe exists on my machine. I have
 several Web sites which each have a number of e-mail addresses so
 it is necessary for me to have them in separate "instances" or
 perhaps you have another solution to this problem.

 Your help is appreciated.

Regards,
