Ok, I figured out how the folder tabs get there. If I assign a color group to a folder, it automatically puts a tab for it at the bottom next to All, Unread and Virtual.

Thanks Roelof! I would prefer to leave virtual tab there but since the virtual folders are also visible in the acct tree, it works perfectly to have the tabs turned off.

I also have a "Family" and "Friends" tab at the bottom of the account pane that corresponds to folders that I have. I have no idea how they got there, I suppose I put them there at some point when I previously used The Bat. I've been looking but don't see a way to remove them. In fact, I don't remember how I put them there. Any ideas?

Uncheck: View -> Folder tabs
Of course that also gets rid of the 'Virtual' tab and I'm not sure whether that is what you want. But otherwise you can't do it.

that option only applies to tabs in the message pane. I want to turn off the default "unread" tab in the account pane.

there is a new option in Options/Preferences/Messages/Tabs to disable this

how can I get rid of the "unread" tab at the bottom of the account pane? I've setup a virtual folder to show all the unread msg in a single folder, so I have no use for the "unread" tab. Either getting rid of it completely or hide it in the account pane is fine. Thanks.
