Yes, the password is really a key phrase used for encryption. And no, it cannot be changed without reinstalling.

Best way is to create an internal backup
Uninstall TB
Install TB
Pick a new password
Tell TB you want to restore from backup
Restore from backup

This will also restore your preferences, though they won't be loaded until you've closed ans restarted TB.
How can I change master password?

I'm registered user of The Bat! Pro, and I chosen "encryption" when upgraded to new version. I've typed too long master password at installation time, but now I need to change it to something more short, as I'm tired to type it every start of the program :).

I've not found any options.

Is this passowrd actually a key phrase used for encrytion and can not be changed (without reinstalling)?
OK I figured it out, thanks for all the help, I must have done (checked) something upon the first installation that made it ask for the "Master Password?)...I did uninstall and reinstall it three x. This last time I deleated everything in the "Rit" Folder in the registry via, start run regedit, then I reinstalled....it works...Thank You
Thanks for writing

I didn't enter an encryption key, and I tried just pressing enter, Ive uninstalled it and even went back to an old image of my harddrive (ghost 9.0) image from a month ago, reinstalled The Bat!, there were no options for a password, or encryption, just a plain old vanilla installation, still upon clicking the desktop icon, it asks for the master password, and then says, its not the same as the password previously entered, I've tried my email (isp) passwords...No effect...., it is the newest version, I installed it with no options selected, went with the default settings, but it will not launch without this unknown master password?

Please help...

Thanks. rod

When TB asks for the master password, it means the encryption key you entered when you told it to use an encrypted message base during the installation phase.

When you didn't give an encryption key, the password should be empty, did you try to go on by just pressing enter?

When you don't remember the password, the only thing you can do is to uninstall TB. Remove the remnants of its messagebase, not that their should be any mail as TB needs this password every time it starts, even when it's starting after the installation is finished.
And install TB again.
Don't use an encrypted messagebase or be sure to remember the password, because without password your encrypted messagebase is inaccessible.
I downloaded the trial version of "The Bat!" and it installs fine, but when you double click on the program icon, to start it for the first
time, a box appears and it says "type in master password" , (no passwords were set up during the installation of "The Bat!")

When you do type a password in that box (any password, even my email password, it says "this password does not match the previous password you entered!!!? I've tried every password possible. Even the one during the purchase process...What previous password, non was ever entered before or during the installation of this software
