Adding certificates is automatic. I have never had to add any myself (other than my own S/MIME certificates). I can't show you where or tell you how because it just happens for me. My gmail account log show the certificate simply being used. I see I have the relevant Equifax certificates in my Trusted CA.

You probably get the exit problem because of the certificate confusion.

I've kind of run out of ideas - maybe somebody else will spot this thread and take it further...
Hi March,

====quote====
I recently had to update my own server's certificate. Whenever TB receives an unknown certificate, it prompts you to a) accept it and b) add it to your Trusted CA set. There's nothing for you to do here other than accept the credentials when asked.
=============

I'd never seen those kind of message from The Bat! so I really know nothing about it. If you can, please show me where and how to add those certificates, I think I will add everything in it so it won't ask for certificates again!

====quote====
They will only appear when there is an exit request pending the completion of a task. A freshly load TB for which no "Exit" has been requested will not have any annoying messages

The only solution to prevent these messages is to make sure that there are no outstanding tasks at the time you try to close TB.

I must try to raise a bugtraq report about that aspect of task management. I sometimes get caught by it too!!

(fortunately, I rarely exit TB so it's not a major issue for me).
=============

Actually, I don't want to close The Bat!. But unfortunately, those annoying "certificates" messages just appeared every 2-3 minutes for each email acounts and bothered me a lot, I have to close the Bat! and...never can do it, unless I terminate it by Ctrl+Alt+Del! Therefore, I close The Bat! easily, without any problem! Since the "certificates" problem persits, I got that exit problem as a bonus gift?

I have to mention that: therefore, I close the Bat! without any problem! And I'm sure that there's no other "The Bat!" is running, and at the moment, The Bat! just idle, no connection or anything else! I believe it's a bug that the developers team need attention!
Hi Marck,
Once again, thank you very much for your reply!

I don't know how to add certificates to "Trusted CA" since I haven't seen one, plus I don't know where to get those data. I saw it in my address book if I click on View/Certificate database but it's not always work since I have this problem. I have a backup of those data from my emails folder. But everytime I restore it by choosing address.ini, The Bat! says it's not a valid one!

I set The Bat! to check my main mail box every 5 minutes, I think it's not too short and I just re-set it down to 10 minutes to see if it helps.

Now The Bat! is working OK, those annoying messages disappeared without adjusting anything, but I know it will comes back since this is not the first time it happened. I really need a solution to solve this.

Thank you for mentioning Thunderbird! I used it before I know The Bat! and I think I'll never come back to Thunderbird because its start up time is way too long and I can't set it work like the way I want it to be! (I.e: The fonts appear too small when I write an email and too big when it comes to receiver! I tested it by sending an email to myself and almost passout!)

BTW, pardon my English!

I use TB with my Gmail account too with those settings and they work well for me. Perhaps you haven't accepted the certifcate and "Added" it to your "Trusted CA" set? (TB prompts you to do this when it sees a new certificate which it hasn't seen before). There are no outstanding bugs in the TLS support. This has worked brilliantly for a few years now.

The connection centre is usually hidden and that shows the current connection process. The log doesn't show a "Starting fetch", so you only know that the previous connection was completed but can't actually see a current one.

If your "Check for new messages" period is too small, you have greater odds of trying to close TB in the middle of a check run. Try increasing this value to improve exit performance.

Thunderbird is probably the only contender in the email arena, but TB is far and away the most powerful client on the market and has many irreplaceable features.
Hi Marck,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I'm using The Bat! with Gmail so I have to set the transport properties as:
SMTP: TLS port 465
POP: TLS port 995
in order to have it work with Gmail. So I think it doesn't have anything wrong with that setting. Is there some bugs with The Bat! in this case? Because my address book doesn't appear automatically. If I want to use it, I have to open it from the menu (clicking Address Book icon will open a blank address book).

And about closing the Bat!, I saw there's no connection working (at the bottom of the Bat!, it says:connection finished, 0 messages received), but I still get that annoying messages and have to close the Bat! by using Process Manager...

I've tried to uninstall the Bat! then reinstall it with a fresh setting, the problems gone for once or twice then it came back! (I'm using The Bat! Pro. 3.08.6)

I don't know what to do, please give me a solution to solve this problem, if I fon't use The Bat!, I don't know what to use for my emails! I hate Outlook, Outlook Express, don't like Eudora, and Incredimail start up too slow and not working with Bitdefender... What else? Please help!

1) You have told TB to use Secure Socket Layer communications for mail send / receive (SSL/TLS/StartTLS) and there is no SSL support on your mail server.

2) You have asked TB to exit but there is a hung task (probably the Communication Centre still trying to get an SSL connection with the server). TB has remembered you wanted to exit but is unable to do so until the task is complete - which it will never be. This is clearly not correct behaviour, but at least it is a rare problem. You will have to use the Windows Task manager to terminate the process.

This is not a "customer services" department, but a peer support forum. On some occasions the developers might put in an appearance, but they are few in number with major time constraints.

Hi there,
Everytime I run The Bat! and let it checks emails, it always pop-up a message that says:
"Unknown CA Certificate
The server didn't provide a root certificate during the session, and there is no corresponding root certificate in your address book.
This connection may not be secure. Please contact your server administrator.
Continue anyway?
OK - Cancel"

In the connection status in the Bat! it says: DATE, TIME: FETCH: TLS handshake failure. Invalid server certificate. (The issuer of this certificate was not found...)

And it's going on like that for each account, it's so annoying!

Then I open my address book and see nothing there. I have to open it using the menu. But I can't close the Bat! either! It always says: "Some task are running...". I have to terminate it by task manager.
Later, I run it and the same problems happen again and again!

This problem just appear a few days ago. Therefor, I used The Bat! just fine! Please help help help and help!

Thank you so much!
Sincerely yours
Saigonian
