What editor are you using? (MicroEd, Windows text, HTML and text, HTML only)
With MicroEd this is working fine (over here).

I've tried that, setting it as low as 5 characters, and it doesn't do a thing. I can still write all the way to the edge of my screen and I have to manually line break if I want to start a new line before I get to the edge of the screen.

Options -> Preferences -> Editor preferences -> Wrap ext at .. characters

I would like to set the message width to a certain number of characters, but I can't see how.

Is there a way to do this, so that while typing, the bat automatically generates a carriage return, even though I have not reached the edge of my screen?
