Depends on the properties of the group. TB defaults to AB groups having the option 'hide items if not explicitly selected' set.
This means that the contents are invisible outside the group.
When you uncheck that option you can seach for those addresses in the root of your AB (= Address Book)
Whenever I create a new AB group the first thing is to uncheck this option, IMO it's one of the less fortunate default settings, but I can live with unselecting it for very new group.

The Bat is great.... finding out all its tricks and how to use it is tough!!!

Is it possible to search for any address in the address book not just in the groups. For exampole I have an address for, say, Sam and Sam is in a Group. Unless I search for him in that group I can't find him. I cannot, for instance, search for him under the account name.

This seems inflexible...
