the free 'BayesIt' along with the 'Bayes Filter' works MAGNIFICENTLY for me.. better than 98% (i get about 100 spam a week, out of 500 emails a week)
BayesIT came as part of the installation package when I first tried TB, but I found it a bit lacking. Then I tried the AntiSpam Sniper plug-in and it works quite well for me. Like all Bayes filters, it requires training. I used a sample of about 400 saved spam messages initially, together with a smattering of my saved good messages, and it's currently doing better than 97% accuracy. The errors are mostly failure to detect some of the newest image-based tricks of the spammers, but occasionally it puts a good message into the junk folder, so I still scan over the folder before blowing its content away.

Features of the Sniper that I like, and have not found in the other plug-ins I tried, include a "friends" list of addresses that won't be filtered at all, which I can edit at any time; a black-words list that can help identify spam without need to do more than parse the Subject line of the message; black rules; and white rules. The friends list can be built automatically when you flag a message as "not junk" or can be done by hand.

All in all, it compares quite well with PopFile which I used with my previous mail client, and unlike PopFile does not seem to be prone to freezing up at unpredictable times. There's a free version that doesn't have all the features, but the paid version is quite reasonable in price, and the developer is quite responsive to questions...
I can't even get the factory spam filter installed.

Below is a message I tried to send to the software publisher. I couldn't send it because I don't yet have a registration number. But I'm not going to get a registration number unless I decide to buy the program, and I can't decide that until I test it out and get the answers to a couple of questions. Sound like Catch-22?

- - -

I just downloaded The Bat in hopes that it will do a better job of handling spam than other programs I have used (especially Pocomail, my current e-mail program).

Your documentation says "The Bat! is provided with the BayesIT plug-in to detect spam . . . " But I can't find it anywhere. My decision about purchasing The Bat relies at least 70% on its ability to do Bayesean filtering. Can you help me find the plug-in, please?

I also already have SpamBayes. Would that also work with your program as a plug-in?

Thanks.

--Fred Powledge
fredpowledge [at] earthlink.net
I have the paid version and it seems to be catcing some of the spam as it slowly "trains". It tosses it into a "Junk" folder for examination and deletion and or spam reporting
The AGAVA plugin has two varieties, a paid version (with trial) and a limited free version. I don't use any of the plugins, so I can't give you a qualified evaluation of any of the available plugins.

I've read on the forum that it doesn't really work
very well(?) I've got Spam Assassin working server-side,
but it seems lately to be not catching some of the new
techniques being used by the spammers.

Would the plugin fair any better than Spam Assassin?

Also, am I right in thinking that the AGAVA plugin is
just a trial version of a paid product?

Cheers.
