Upgrading from SB1.5x on 98SE to BP current on XP

Upgrading from SB1.5x on 98SE to BP current on XP order to install programs, not to mess up iKEY 1000 as setup in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
I should add that I have successfully installed the Bat Professional 3.85 and restored my email from the 98SE machine with no difficulty when I chose to use a "password" I then saved it as Mr. Otten suggested in his reply. I did this with XP with admin. rights as suggested. It worked just fine up to and including downloading new mail from various accounts. I then saved the backup as a version 3 backup when I manage to get the iKey1000 install done. I then completely uninstalled version 3.85 of the BatProfessional before I started installing the iKey and Token Manager files as described above. This is described to document what I have done for completeness sake. If I could just get the iKey working now...

Upgrading from SB1.5x on 98SE to BP current on XP order to install programs, not to mess up iKEY 1000 as setup in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
I am documenting what I have done so far as requested by Mr Otten: This is an attempt to document my attempt to install The Bat! v3 S/N ######## / Professional Edition on my new Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 after having used a copy of SecureBat on Windows 98 SE for about the last 5 years and is done to simplify anyone else dealing with this problem in the future.

I booted up and closed most of the programs in the tray and installed IKEYDRVR.exe This files digital signature was checked and found OK and installed with no problems or error message and existed in the Control Center as usual. I then rebooted my computer and installed the The Bat! Token Manager and Token Activation Utility which installed with no difficulty, and no error messages. It existed in the control center as usual. Following the instructions on the install – ikey file I had then done step 1) install the iKey Driver and reboot, 2) install the Token Manager package. I then 3) inserted the iKey1000 and ran the token manager.

My iKey1000 was used with my SecureBat 1.54 installed in 2001 and works just fine in my old Windows 98SE machine which I am permanently retiring. It’s token specifications include Library Version 2.11.46, Driver Version 1.15.2.38, Firmware version 0.7, Product code 84, it’s memory size is 8168 bytes with freespace of 7512 bytes, it has a serial number and name all accessible to me under the Token manager package installed in 2001 and running on 98SE. Token manager.exe on the 98 machine is a program of 643K (649,728 bytes) created May3, 2001. The above information is from the information in Token Manager from the 98SE installation which documents it works without difficulty, which of course it does.

Now for the "hitch": When I run the token activation utility Step number 4) on install iKey “Select iKey token comes up empty." When I hit refresh nothing changes, and when I hit cancel the token activation screen comes up. [This says that the new TOKEN MANAGER INSTILLATION DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY IKey1000.]

If I "browse" [the "browse" button in the token activation utility ] I get the blank select iKey Token Screen. If I hit submit without selecting a token (because none is offered) I get: "the token is not selected. Would you like to select it now? Of course I would like to but no information [specifically my token] does not show up on the select screen. [IT'S NOT SEEING MY TOKEN]

Not given to giving up easily: If I copy the file from the installation on my windows 98SE TokenManager file that maintains the information to reinstall in a new iKey1000 if the current one becomes lost, the TokenMgr.pfx file, about 1KB, then Ritlabs Token Manager can see my token: and the file on the iKey, which I called, with no creativity, "bat1" the original instillation file.

But that is the limit of the accessibility of the information and when I try to use Token Manager to open this it cannot see it. I can click on "create a new ID" but am afraid I don’t know whether this will make the token corrupt if I try to use it on my Windows98 SE machine or not, or if indeed it will allow the new token manager to see it or use the token.

Hopefully, this explanation will give enough information to someone to help me install a program I really do like.

Thank you for your assistance.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions at this point.

As you want to use TB with your iKEY1000, my guess would be to install that before TB, as you can't change the message base type without uninstalling TB. That's for your last question.

I honestly don't know whether it is possible to restore a v1 backup with TB v3. I never tried that. I never even tried the v1 backup functions as they were rumoured to be somewhat buggy.
But what doesn't help either is that the file format that stores the folder info has been changed btween v1 and v2 and that the file format for the filters and the account info both have changed from v2 to v3.

My best guess would be to install TB v3 without the ikey stuff on your new computer and restore a backup made by v1. When that is going fine then you create a backup with v3 and uninstall v3. To keep this procedure simple you'd better run the whole procedure in an XP account with admin rights.
When this is done you install the ikey stuff, install TB and proceed to restore the backup in the XP user account that you intend to use yourself.
Hi,

I am not sure where to ask this question but I am trying to upgrade from SecureBat 1.5x which has been working fine on Windows 98SE since 2001. I have gotten a new Windows XP and wrote the following ticket to technical support 10/01/06 but maybe I submitted it wrong or something:
******************************************
This is a series of question on how to upgrade from my 2001 version of SecureBat 1.5x to my newly purchased Bat Professional 3.x and concerns where and how to download the copies of the applications mentioned in the email from you in the first long paragraph below the dotted **** line. (deleted for brevity, but paid for by credit card, order acknowledged)

I also want to know how to set up my new copy of the bat and keep the log-on information for my various email accounts (that I no longer remember the various settings to now that 5 years have passed from when I set up the securebat in 2001). (Will Backup and Restore do this for me? - If not, can I get my 2001 installation on windows 98SE to reveal that information to me when I install the new program on my XP machine?)

Next, I have an iKEY1000 that works to get to my email on my 2001 windows 98se machine. I don't want to mess up the key during a new install of Token Manager or the iKEY driver because until I get the restore done on my new XP machine the iKEY is the only way I can get to my old email on my old machine. So is there some instructions for how to install the token manager and ikey driver that won't change the iKEY so I can't get to the 98 machine emails?

Is there an order to install the programs? iKEY1000 driver (then)> Token manager (then)> TheBat Professional? or what order is right?

Thank you. WK
