hey, thank you so much for your help- i followed your instructions, reinstalled, and now, all of my accounts with saved emails intact, are again available to me. thanks again for taking a few minutes to help me out, trust me, i have enough to worry about as it is, with having to resetup my system and all that entails, so its nice to have this one major thing taken care of. you can setup windows 1000 times, but your mail, thats part of your life-its irreplacable once its gone. thanks again
I don't know what you've done until now, but this is the procedure that has always worked for me:
Install TB
Run TB
TB asks for the mail directory, set it to the existing mail directory (that's not the default)
TB asks whether you want to create a new account or to restore an old account from backup, select 'new account' and give it the name of one of your existing accounts (the account name is the same as the name of the directory where the account's message base is stored) TB will recognize the settings for the old account.
Create new accounts for all the old accounts.

As you've been trying some things I don't know what your current settings are. So you've got to delete those.
Close TB
Start Regedit
Find the tree at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!
Delete this tree in the registry
Close Regedit
Start TB
Now TB doesn't know anything, so it'll ask about the stuff I mentioned before.

You didn't mention what version you're using. As of somewhere in V3 TB supports an encrypted message base. When you've been using this, you should use the same master password for the new instal as for the old install, otherwise TB won't recognize your old stuff. When you didn't use OTFE then you shouldn't use it now. Doing so offers full possiblities to make a major mess out of your stuff, might even mean some things are irretrievable.
ok, so after a couple years, i had to do a fresh, from scratch, install of windows. my mail folder has always been on a second hard disk, never touched but from the bat. now ive installed the bat, set my mail folder to the same that it always has been, but nothings showing up- granted i didnt have my settings exported because i didnt see an option for this, but i did expect to see all my saved mails to still be there- which i know they are, if i can access them- surely all my saved mails arent gone? if someone could help me, id be appreciative
