... and the trash folder should be a plain folder not virtual etc. The filter will move files from any folders you select to the common folder. Totally separate from the junk folder.

If you are set up correctly when you delete the junk it too will go to the common trash folder
The bat works differently than any other email program. It is account oriented. When you get used to the way it works it is wonderful

First move all your accounts below your folders. You aren't going to need them. Then make a separate INBOX for all acounts and make a filter to move all mail there.

What I did to do what you are trying to do is create a filter to moove all trash to a central trash folder. Every so often empty it. Run the maintenence center on a regular basis and it works like a charm

====quote====
Antifreeze writes:
This worked, but then I don't seem to be able to
delete the trash in each individual account. The
whole point was to reduce the number of trash cans,
but using a global trash just adds one extra. I don't
know why I can't delete the account trash folders.
=============

You can't delete them as that's a system folder, just as you can't delete the in- or outbox. I guess it has to do with TB being built very account oriented.

OK, thanks. I'll just delete spam that gets through
rather than junk it, although I was hoping to keep
trash and junk seperate. It is a pity that the 'mark
as junk' button pops-up that annoying message.

> A common trash folder is created deleting a message
> from a common folder. (I tested this, had to create
> a common folder first, though.)

This worked, but then I don't seem to be able to
delete the trash in each individual account. The
whole point was to reduce the number of trash cans,
but using a global trash just adds one extra. The only way to create a button that moves a message to a defined folder is to use the 'alternative delete' action.
That is a buttonable action. You can define the target folder in alternative delete section of the account properties:
Account -> Properties -> Mail management -> Deletion
It can also be defined in the folder properties. The folder properties have precedence over the account settings.
Unfortunately the alt del icon is rather similar to the default del icon.

I think that you need to use an anti-spam plug-in with the setting use the common junk folder in order to create a common junk folder. I can't confirm that as I don't like anti-spam plug-ins either.

A common trash folder is created deleting a message from a common folder. (I tested this, had to create a common folder first, though.)

Junk and Trash

Junk and Trash in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.

1/
I can create two buttons ('mark as junk' and 'mark as NOT junk') in my toolbar. However, they only work with an annoying pop-up message unless I have a spam plugin installed.
I have found that the plugins are less efficient than my email server's spam assassin and so do not want to use a plugin. Is there anyway to create toolbar buttons which just have the action 'Send to Junk' or 'Send to <folder>'?

2/
I can't figure out how to create global (common) junk and trash folders which don't belong to any particular account. I can create normal folders, but the junk and trash have special options and icons. Any ideas?

Cheers.
