First you should try to install the latest TB release and see whether that cures the problem.
Your registration will work for that version just fine, it's valid for all v3 versions.

OK, I'll try my very best...

Are you using OTFE? (On The Fly Encryption of the message base) - No, I am not.

Do you use any plug-ins? - I installed Bayes Antispam, though it does not seem to be there now. When I try to "feed" it a spam mail, <i get the message that there is no spam filter plugin there.

What virus scanner, firewall, OS version, spam filter do you use? - AVIRA, private edition. WIN XP Home, SP2, automatic updates. Windows Firewall, AVM Fritz!Box firewall that's integrated into the DSL router (it is not on my computer).

Did you try whether the latest release will work? (You can download it from the Ritlabs site and just install it on top of the previous version) - No, I didn't. Would my registration still be valid for that one?

How many accounts do you use? - E-mail accounts? Three, of whom one is only for sending mails, while it's answers come forwarded through one of the other accounts.

How old is your latest backup? - 3 weeks, I did it before I sent my PC in to service.

Did you change anything at all in your configuration before the crash (a new account or just a new filter, no matter how irrelevant it may seem). - No, I just imported the last backup that contained all the account informations. I have a new mainboard, though, which was built in by a specialized service provider - I did not do it myself. I rely on it that the necessary drivers and BIOS changes were taken care of - at least that's what they told me.

How many accounts have you got? You mean, Windows accounts? I had only the administrator account before. Now, I have a guest account which is not active and an administrator account which they named "I" for me (C:\ was formatted and XP was newly installed). In Windows, I changed this "I" for "Claudia Arnold", but still the name of "I" is around in some folder names.
Grr! I have already made the experience that XP does not work properly when the accounts are messed up, and I would hate to go through the formatting/installation process anew, but do you think I should?

Do you use common or virtual folders? - A lot of common folders, one for every major customer, mostly in threaded view. Plus one virtual folder that shows the flagged mails.

Do you use common filters? - No. I never experimented with them.

I hope I have answered it all correctly, and really do appreciate your help.

With kind regards, Claudia
You'd best keep your registration info to yourself. This is a user to user support forum, we don't need to know your registration info.

Let's start with some questions. And please answer all of them, most of these problem solving threads take too long because the required info won't be given right away, because of some sense of enthusiasm.

Are you using OTFE? I am sorry I can not give the serial number of my TheBat-Installation since I can not open it. (I could give the registration key, though.) When I click on the programm icon, I get a message "Access violation of address 00B43680 in the module 'thebat.exe'." If I click Okay, several other messages of access violations come and the programm shows me just a grey window with no functions running.

When I try to close, the application freezes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the application, but it ran only one time - and then the access violations started all over again.

I have the professional version, the file name of the installer is thebat_pro_3-80-06

What can I do?

Regards,
Claudia
