If you select Options/Message Format/MicroEd, it will only properly work with 8-bit alphabets, like Greek or Cyrillic. To work with Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Vietnamese, the user have to select Options/Message Format/HTML only. In a new version of The Bat!, we will implement the new version of MicroEd that will support Unicode and will work with all alphabets properly. If I misunderstood your question, please let me know.

Strange! in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Using TB 3.98.4, XP-Pro with latest updates installed.

Had a strange occurrence in replying to a message this morning. In the editor box, the original text and my reply looked normal. However, when the message was sent to the Outbox all the text turned to strange characters (mostly boxes). The reply was to a yahoogroups lists, the message as posted to the list contained the same gibberish.

After some investigation, turns out that the original message was sent with a character set of 'EUC-KR' (no, I don't know why a book-dealer in Illinois would be using that character set [Mintersoft EdgeDesk as EMail client]).

It appears that TB! Editor captures the original character set and uses it to encode the reply. The re-formatting doesn't take place until the message is placed in the Outbox.

In order to send a readable reply, I had to use the Options section of the Editor Window, selecting either 'Windows Default' or Western-European (ISO)' character set before starting to write my reply.

Seems to me that there should be an editor option to automatically force the use of a particular character set as selected by the user, standard for all editor use; only to be changed as necessary. Especially since one would not even know the re-formatting had taken place unless the message is viewed in the Outbox prior to sending.

G'Jim c):{-
