Just keep in mind that filters are processed top down. When your 'known' filter is the topmost filter, it'll pick everything with senders from your AB, so any AB based filters that are running afterwards won't pick anything.

Let's take an example.
You've got three entries for your wife, those belong to the group 'wife', but also to the group 'relatives'.
In order to drop messages from your wife in the folder wife and messages from your brother into the folder relatives and mail from your neighbours into the 'inbox-known' you'll need three filters.
First a filter that triggers on senders from the wife AB group
Second there's a filter that triggers on senders from the relatives AB group
And third you'll need your 'known filter'
As soon as you switch that order your filtering results will change.
But when you're also filtering on mail from mailing lists, their order doesn't matter compared to the wife and relatives filter (I presume that you've got the mailing list address in your AB, but not in the wife or relatives AB groups.)

I hope that this makes things a bit clear.

Note that all of TB's AB related features (and it has quite a lot of them) won't work properly/reliable when you've got the same addresses in multiple entries in your address book(s). You can add one entry to as many AB groups as you want, but don't use duplicate addresses.
thanks very much. think i have everything sorted regarding address book just did what you suggested.

need to figure out the filter system now so emails from people i know go into known folder and emails from certain website or forums go into their own folder. i'll figure it out i hope thanks
When you want to be able to select the used address, you'd best create three entries in the address book. The other option is to enter the full address manually, but that's a bit counterproductive to having an address book.

Create three entries for your wife, add them all to the address book group 'wife' and you can use that address book group for filtering purposes and for personalized address book templates and you're still able to piuck the right address from the AB.
re- reading it sounds a little confusing so to break it all down.

i have one contact.

the contact has 3 email addresses.

putting 3 emails on seperate lines in contact properties results in only being able to send to 1st listed email.

putting 3 emails seperated by commas (,) in contact properties results in all 3 emails being selected to send to.

i want to know the method of writing the emails in contact properties in order to be able to choose which email address i wish to send a single email to- work or home etc.

hope thats not as confusing as first post

hello just joined and the problem i have is when i create a contact (my wife for example) she has 3 email addresses but when i enter all 3 in the contact properties and then go to send message only the first email shows.

this was my seperation method. i entered first email
blah@hotmail.com - then i went to a new line
blah@yahoo.com - then 3rd email on another new line
blahblahblah@gmail.com

i have also tried seperating emails with commas. blah@gmail.com, blah@yahoo.com, blah@hotmail.com

the comma method makes every email show when i go to send new message.

is there a seperation method that will allow me to choose what email address i am sending a single email to as in most cases i will not send the same email to every single email address.

thanks in advance for any help and i hope that was understandable as i tried explaining best i could.
