I realised I didn't need to delete individually, thanks very much, but I was thinking of Shift-Click selecting not Control-A so that's a bit better than my approach. But I've just tried Control-A and I still have to click on and preview one message that way.

I'm afraid I keep coming back to the fact that it seems **weird** to have a message number pre-selected for previewing once the folder has been **completely** emptied. That's a good work-around which you have been kind enough to mention but TheBat's current approach to this seems to me to makes no sense... which is a pity for such an otherwise excellent program.

Thanks again,

Hugh
You don't have to delete the messages individually.
Ctrl-A
Del
and you're ready
Unless of course you've got a parked message, in that case you'll get a pop-up that asks what you want. The default is not to delete the parked message.
Thanks very much for the quick reply.

If I delete messages individually, I have to click on two messages (start and end message) which will then show in the Preview pane, albeit briefly.

Turning off the Preview pane for one folder only would also solve the problem but I really didn't expect that change to be made, I realise it's much more difficult.

When a new folder is created, no message can be selected for Preview. (Or is it that a dummy message number is selected but that message number isn't there to be previewed yet?)
Why is a message **still** "selected" once a folder has been emptied? That message is **guaranteed** to be gone, so it doesn't make sense to me!
Could a dummy message number be selected in this case, e.g. message 65535?

Thanks for your help,

Hugh
As a workaround you could create a message saying something like 'This is your junk folder', put it in your junk folder (you don't need to mark it as junk), park it (so it won't be deleted by accident)
After you've deleted all messages in your junk folder(except the parked one) your parked message will be selected and the next time you open the junk folder it will be displayed.

As for preview enabled or not, that's a system setting and not account or folder based. I guess it would mean rewriting a serious part of the software and the message base specs should be altered, the latter would mean that older versions of TB wouldn't be able to read the new message base anymore.
(Yes, some of us switch between versions back and forth.)

I posted this in October but did not hear from anyone in RITLabs. I tried logging it also as a development request but heard nothing there either.

As it's the only serious flaw in TheBat for me, it seems worth one more try.

Here's the problem :
I want to use the Preview window for all folders (except the Junk mail folder but that isn't possible)

1. I EMPTY the Junk mail folder
2. New spams arrive
3. When I check the folder before emptying it again, a message is displayed in the Preview window. This is annoying - and sometimes disgusting depending on the type of Spam.

Sometimes I do need to read a message in the Junk mail folder (that's why my TheBat filter can't be set to just delete them).
For example, sometimes list mails arrive from an unexpected sending address or acknowledgement emails are sent from companies where I've just bought a product. I have had to "white-list" the addresses I want in SpamPal to get round this but it means phishing emails reach my Inbox (e.g. amazon.com).

Thank you for your reply,

Hugh
