A good scenario is to not only use the internal backup but if you backup all your data, also get the bats mail folders usually foung under documents and settings / your login / application Data / The Bat

That way you can selectively restore
why don't you just make backups of .tbb's ?
If you have a backup, solving this is a one minute annoyance and nothing more.
Important data may be lost for various reasons, and if you can't quickly recover in such case, the fault is all yours.
Every 3 days, I add to a rar archive .tbb files modified in the last 3 days, plus all the small config files in the mail folder. Every two weeks I make a full archive of the mail folder. This happens automatically, and I know that no matter what sort of a disaster happens, I can have everything back in minutes.
BTW I needed all these backups only once so far, when Norton AntiVirus deleted one of my message bases (and then I configured it not to monitor the mail folder). Never had problems with theBat itself so far, I use it for 5 years or so and my message bases are about 2 GB alltogether.
My largest folder contains 23000 messages, so the number of messages won't be the problem.
How big are the messages, do they contain a lot of attachments?

The problem might be virus related, a virus is received. The virus scanner is updated and next time TB runs, access to the Inbox is blocked (or worse).

My Inbox averages around the 230-240 messages (to be purged after 180 days), but most of the messages received in my main account get filtered automatically to one of my 100+ folders, most of them contaning between the 2 and 2000 messages.
This system never caused problems for me since I've started with TB seven years ago.

Never used TB on Vista though.
It was said it was very rare ... (I was also in communication with the developers).

I have fresh installation of Windows Vista Business (just with few basic programmes installed) on the latest Toshiba laptop (Dual 2 Core with 2GB RAM). It would be difficult to call it obsolete or unstable. Bat version is 3.99. As far as I can see, inbox folder is being compressed with every closing the programme - I have no reason to interfere with it ...
I have moved most of the messages from inbox folder to another folder (except last 2-3 months - or is this folder unable to keep any amount of messages reliably ?)

I've read your previous topic and nobody wrote that it happens once in a 1000 years.
AAMOF I wrote that these things don't happen just for nothing.
Apparently you didn't see fit to change the way you handle TB or your computer.

Is your new computer really as stable as you think it is?
What version of TB are you using?
When's the last time you compressed your folders?
It happened one month ago (<noindex>http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/read.php?FID=4&TID=4816&MID=18343&phrase_id=324163#message18343</noindex>)
and I was told it is an exception which happens once in 1000 years. Well, it happened again after one month - suddenly out of nothing I got the error message, could not open any email in my inbox folder and after "repair", lost all of them (very useful "repair" !!) - they simply disappeared.

<noindex>http://www.savita.me.cz/show/batcrash.jpg</noindex>

That´t already too much. Something like this never happened even in Outlook Express. How could it happened in a paid programme that claims to be much better ? I am deeply shocked and disappointed. I may stop using this programme and ask for money back.
