Ha! solved. The key was Kaspersky. When that firewall is 'off', it totally blocks thebat from operating. When I switched the firewall on again
'X-Kaspersky: MailDispatcher' took over and everything worked - it even let logs be written again. It only took me a week to do the illogical thing and switch the firewall on again.

Anyway, thanks for the help Roelef.

Eric
Hi Roelof:

I would like to post the protocol logging but it is not working on this laptop. I know how to set it up and to read it, because I have just done so on the other computer I mentioned above, which I have set up as a trial.
And I could see what you mean about the passwords.

Eric
Could you enable protocol logging and post the results? (Note that transmitted passwords are logged plain, so you'd better fudge them before posting the log)
Hello: I have used thebat for over 5 years. The day I installed version 3.99.24, I ceased to be able to contact my mail server, either at home over cable, or at the office via the LAN which is connected to the internet on a T1.

Setup is Windows XP SP2 on a laptop. And with Internet Explorer I still have full access to the internet both at home and at office. I am using it now to send this. In the office, I also have full access to the lan.

So the tcp/ip seems to be alright, but thebat will not connect

I seem to have tried everything - what are the most likely causes?

Firewalls - both windows and Kaspersky are disabled and even with all security at minimum, I cannot contact the mail server, which is a Linux unit which also hosts our website ewa1.com. The ISP there says he has changed nothing. I have tried going back to 3.99.3 without improvement. Other computers in our office have no difficulty in contacting the mail server - but they don't use the Bat. Except one, where I just put in a trial version of thebat and it works. So it is something wrong in my laptop setup which only occurred when I installed 3.99.24

Please help!

Eric
