Start position in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
The problem is that there is no golden way for it. Actually I'd like it to not focus on any mail when going to a folder. Focusing on any unread mail won't do at all for me since some mails you keep unread for a reason and when you start The Bat! I'd rather not let it decide my workflow. When it autoselects an unread mail I'm kind of forced to read that one now or forget that even though it is now marked as read I never actually read it.
Thanks mark.

May I suggest that for the new version 4 this be included. Everyone who reads mail will need the cursor to focus at some place and the most obvious to me would be at the oldest mail first to allow read forward. However if this was optional then at least one could chose.
There is no direct way to do this when you enter a folder.

I do this myself using one of two other features. If you are browsing mail in the main window, you can use the "Next unread" hotkey to move to the next unread message. This can be configured to jump to the next folder with unread messages and focus the first unread message in there - as you're asking for. The downside here is that the order of reading is entirely dependent upon the order of folder layout.

My personal fave is the message ticker. I read all my mail through the "Browse ticker messages" folder. All unread messages are in there. I sort by Folder and Date and everything is right where I need it.

Another suggestion would be to create a virtual folder within the folder tree that contains all unread messages for that account. But that may just confuse things.

I have several news groups set up for reading and these are threaded. When I move to a new group I would like that the focus is on the first unread item but this does not happen. It seems to focus on the last item read,

The same applies to mail items in non-thread view.

How do I get it to focus on the first item unread.
