Gmail is different. Doesn't work that way.
.
====quote====
Nordy writes:
How do I download mails to The Bat that I have downloaded before?
=============

How about right clicking on the account name in TB and selecting "Dispatch Mail On Server" - "All Messages". This should show the entire account content. Unless of course GMail is different to other POP servers.

IMAP is always connected by default, but you can set it to disconnect after sync in the account settings.
Unfortunately IMAP is something that TB! still does not master as well as other clients do, there still are many quirks with it
I did the Imap thing. But, when I run The Bat! with Imap, its constanly working. It never seems to disconnect. I've set auto check to 3 minutes.
Whats the right way to do the Imap thing with The Bat!?

Two ways to do that:
1. make an IMAP account in The Bat and access Gmail this way (you have to make a new account, in The Bat you can't change a POP account to IMAP).
To set it up use these settings:
<noindex>https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799&topic=12814</noindex>
You also have to enable IMAP in the Gmail account.
Afterwards you can just access your gmail account via IMAP and copy the missing mails to the folder you want it to be in.
Just be aware that unfortunately IMAP is still not the most comfortable feature in The Bat!

2. To redownload the emails from the last 30 days use this trick:
<noindex>http://lifehacker.com/software/gmail/how-to-re+download-recent-gmail-messages-251365.php</noindex>
Afterwards you can just run have the Bat delete duplicates from your folders.

I'd recommend the IMAP solution.
Unfortunately, GMail does currently unconditinally removes a message from POP3 store as soon as the message is transmitted to a POP3 client (like The Bat!), regardless whether the client delete the message or wishes to keep it further on the server. I hope that GMail will be able to fix this issue in future.
