if you are logged as admin and still don't see a Security tab, in WindowsExplorer click
Tools -> Folder options ->'View' tab, and un-check 'Use simple file sharing'. Then Security tab will appear
You have to have administrator rights to change security options. You might have to access folder options in the control panel (again as administrator) and disable "simple share something" (don't know the correct english name). In the security tab you change the rights of the users.
You could also copy your mail folder to a location where the restricted users have all the right rights (like C:\documents and settings\All Users\Mail) and change the location of your mails either in the Bat! or in the registry.
This is actually really not a problem caused by The Bat! but by you using a restricted user.
Sorry bigg one but when I right click on the user folder in the Mail folder, I only see the sharing and security option. I see nowhere to set privileges. Can you help with more info? I need to get this resolved or go to another email client (reluctantly).

Thx
in Windows Explorer right click the Mail folder for that user, go to Security tab, and give 'Full Control' for the 'Everyone' user (or for each existing user you want to be able to use theBat), for this folder and everything below it. If there is no Everyone, add it first. You may need to do the same for the installation folder. If the mail folder is inside it, do it directly for the installation folder.

You can see where is the mail folder in the registry,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!\ ->Working Directory
What version are you using?
In v1 TB used the programdir as default location for the maildirectory, I'm not sure for V2, but v3 defaults to somewhere in the user specific path (c:/documents and settings/user/...)
But I've been using TB with the maildir on another drive/partition since forever and that never caused me any problems and I've been running as a restricted user for quite some time now.
I have been using thebat! for several years as an administrator account on windows xp pro. I now have a reason to increase security on my pc and would like to set up thebat! so all users have access to it. I don't seem to be able to do that. I have tried setting up a group but that doesn't seem to do it.

When I try to use thebat! when logged on as a limited user, I get an error message that says cannot create working directory. Checking in Program Files the directory and folder that TB is looking for is there. Can someone help?

Thx
