It worked fine for focused emails. I think it's called 'Generic Group'.

When a message is not on focus, how can I change the default background color from Windows default colors (for example, when focus is on the empty 'In' box).

For the record, I like the program. A fancy GUI is not important to me.

Change your default colour group
Folder -> Colour group ->  Edit colour groups
It's called something like 'general group' or something like that, select the group, press the edit button and change the colours to your liking.

Is there a way to change the default background color in the message pane?  I would prefer dark blue with white text.
