File encryption

File encryption in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Deleting the RIT tree from the registry is only needed when you're running TB from a non-administrator account.
In that case you don't need to uninstall TB, but you simply remove this tree from the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT
and in stead of installing it, you'll run it again.
So on a non admin account of Windows the procedure is:

Create a full internal backup
Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT with Regedit
Delete your message base( or remove it to a save location)
Install TB again
Enable encrypted message base
Restore your backup

If I'm not mistaken, going in either direction, ie encrypted to non or non to encrypted also requires expunging registry Bat references.

So, insert a step, after uninstall, to rearch the registry for 'RIT' (without quotes) .. and delete it.

Then reinstall.

Good luck.

You can't convert single accounts, you've got to convert the whole message base.

The procedure is as follows:
Create a full internal backup
Uninstall TB
Delete your message base( or remove it to a save location)
Install TB again
Enable encrypted message base
Restore your backup
you can't use tools/privacy....

If I correctly remember, switching from non-encrypted to encrypted message base requires reinstallation + import of old message bases. Not sure though as I don't use encrypted message bases.

The easiest would be to create an encrypted container(virtual disk) with TrueCrypt or a similar app, and then just move your mail folder inside. That's what I use.
How do I easily convert an existing account which is in plain format to encrypted?

Can I use the Tools/privacy/file encrypt process?
