as far as i can remember, i simply uninstalled system mechanic. if that doesn't solve the problem for you, maybe try asking iolo if it's possible that even after uninstalling it, there might be things left on the system that can block connections.

sorry that i can't help you more than that :/
How did you fix this? I've had the same problem for 2 months now - I've been having to read my e-mail through the http interface because The Bat! can't connect. I've uninstalled System Mechanic, Authentium AV, etc. but no luck...
argh... i just figured out what it was. indeed, not my firewall but i installed a tool called "system mechanic" (by iolo) recently and it seems their "email protection" caused that problem.

what's really strange is that it just blocked access by the bat and not opera and what's annoying is that that protection can't be disabled anywhere - no program setting, no startup object (at least as far as i remember - i already uninstalled it and won't reinstall it for some time...), no windows service.

but thanks for your fast response :) (btw - seems that if the bat can't retrieve mails, no log file is created... only after i solved the problem, i actually got a log)
Create a protocol log file
Account -> Properties -> Transport -> Protocol logging -> Retrieval protocol: Enable logging
And try to connect again. Afterwards look into the protocol log file and see whether you can make any sense out of it. If you don't then post it here. Take care that any passwords will be shown in the log, so garble them before posting the log on the forum.
actually, i have simply copied over an old backup over my system partition but i didn't know how to make a short topic title out of that.

anyway, since then i get the following error: "FETCH - Could not connect to the server"

i figured that since the backup is pretty old, maybe the bat wasn't installed yet and some libraries might be missing, so i reinstalled it - but i still got that error.

so i took a look at my firewall... complete access for the bat and when i check my mails, i see that my firewall allows the connection - so that can't be it as well.

then i figured that maybe my account settings got screwed up somehow, so i set everything to regular (even though i think that TLS used to work...), re-entered my password, i even created a new account within the bat, so i can be sure that all the settings are at default - still nothing.

the last thing i thought of was that maybe, for whatever reason, my computer just can't connect to the pop server. weird port issues or whatever... but i tried accessing the server using the mail-part of opera and it worked like a charm. so i can't help but think that the problem lies with the bat after all...

can anyone here think of another reason why i might experience this problem or what else i could try to get the bat working again?

thanks in advance...
