Losing all address book entries

Losing all address book entries need to reload ABD in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
This is still a problem. Every time Dad starts TheBat! he has to manually reload the ADB to see any addresses. Both on his desktop and on his laptop.

Ok, one other difference, he's using XP Pro while I'm on XP home, both now with SP3.

EDIT:
OK, we found possible clue as to what's going on. When he starts TheBat! and looks at the empty addressbook's properties, it shows that it's loaded from a (removed) removable drive, such as E:\TheBat.adb instead of the normal path into Program Files. After opening the .adb and deleting the empty folder from the addressbook window, the properties shows it in the proper location. But still, the next time TheBat! is started, the addressbook is empty again and pointing to the removable drive.

Losing all address book entries need to reload ABD in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Today I noticed when looking at Dad's address book that it was empty again. I tried importing from TheBat.ADB and it said it imported 119 contacts, but it was still empty. So I opened TheBat.ADB again and got all the contacts and deleted the empty copy of "Personal Address Book" folder. When Dad came back in and I mentioned this to him, he said he ALWAYS has to do this when he starts The Bat! I didn't know it was that bad, I thought it was only occasional and he hasn't said anything about it lately.

I've never have this problem on my machine, and I have less RAM and free HD space than he has. Both running on XP with SP2.

I just now found out that if he types a name in a new mail, the autocomplete does work, but going to address book still shows empty until manually loading the ADB.
TB shouldn't do that, but then you're also complaining about losing mail regularly.
That points to TB being interrupted while closing down. Either because the computer is powered off/crashes while TB is busy shutting down, or some tool is interfering with TB's functioning (TB is especially vulnerable when closing down) or TB isn't running very smoothly at your system.
All of these things make me wonder about your OS, RAM, free and total hard disk space (both for the drive containing your message base and the drive containing your temp dir), virus scanner, firewall, plug-ins for TB and the TB version you're using.
But is there any possible explanation for the visible loss of contacts?
Delete the empty one from the address book and remove the TheBatDefault.abd from its current location.
No, when he loses contacts, "Personal Address Book" is still listed but it's empty. Then we go to the File menu and Open address book from TheBat.abd and then there is a second "Personal Address Book" listed, this one full of the previously lost contacts. We then delete the empty "Personal Address Book" from the list.

There is a TheBatDefault.abd and a TheBat.abd file. The second is the larger (more complete) one.
I don't understand what you mean with 'two personal address books', has he got two thebat.abd files? If so delete the empty one from your TB setup and from disk.

Otherwise it's just possible that one of the address book files has been corrupted. In that case, create a backup with TB with only the address book:
Tools -> Backup -> What to backup -> only select address book (or even choose the specific address book you want to backup)
Now delete the address books in TB
Close TB
Move the address books to another location (you can always delte them later)
Open TB
Restore the address book backup
At least twice now in the past week, Dad has lost his address book contents. The TheBat.ADB is still there with all the contacts, but the address book is empty. We can load the ADB and get all the contacts back, but that gives two "Personal Address Book"s listed in the left column so the empty one has to be deleted.

Why is he losing his contacts that they have to be reloaded (we made another copy of the file just in case the problem gets worse)?
