Restoring lost mails

Restoring lost mails in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Apparently there's something wrong with the file otherwise the mail wouldn't be lost. Without having access to the .bck file I can't say what's wrong with it.
Can you scan the file with your virus scanner? When there's something in it that's recognized as a virus, your virus swcanner would interfere with opening the file.
What's the size of the file?
Can you create a copy of it, rename that to the .uee exytension and open it with WinZip?

Restoring lost mails in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Dad has lost mails a couple times on his system. This last time (a couple weeks ago), he still has a BCK file that has the plainly readable mails in it (just like the TBB files are readable). We've tried importing or restoring these mails but The Bat! is incapable of getting any mails imported from the BCK file.

Is there some code in this file that is preventing The Bat! from importing that I could edit? Could someone write some utility (or add a feature to The Bat!) to let us import/restore these mails from the BCK file? I have also tried renaming it to a TBB file with no change in import results. Even replacing the MESAGES.TBB with it and deleting the TBI file doesn't help.
