as you have a GUI for creating/editing accounts (creating is even possible from command line), how it matters in what format data is stored?

If you need to move an account from one installation to another, this can be done either by using the built in backup/restore, or by simply moving some files.

why not create a standard xml file for creating email accounts that keeps everything but password. And when importing accounts it will ask you the password for each if there are multiple.
