It has to do with selecting text in the editor.
Open the editor and set block type to linear, place the cursor smewhere on the middle of a line and drag the cursor down. Your selection starts with the first line (but uses the full line) and ends with the last selected line.
Now do the same with block type linear and column, the difference will be clear.

I've used The Bat! for ten years but I've never understood "block type" differences.  Will someone please explain differences between block types of stream, linear and column?
